Bell, best late cut since BCL?
Well? Can't think of anyone else who plays it so orgasmicly.

I can't think of anyone else who plays it at all these days. SRT plays it occasionally I think. That's about it. A beautiful, but old fashioned shot.

It's THE shot. Most people who have played the game can play the square cut or the slog-sweep (the cow shot as it was called when I played) - but the genuine late cut - as opposed to letting the ball run off the face off the bat - is a joy to behold.

IRB > SRT > BCL
No really, are we putting him in the same breath as these two?

The straight drive is the shot that makes me moist. SRT has given me much pleasure with this shot over the years. Pietersen had my heart pounding yesterday as well.

Henry, the thought of you being moist is not something I want to dwell on!

This is interesting. Pietersen wasn't batting yesterday.

A well played perfect front foot cover drive is still the shot that I really admire. Mostly because when you start 'learning' the game, this is the shot they make you practice the most. The getting your feet to the ball and keeping the bat close and keeping your head over the ball and still, etc.
And the backfoot straight drive is just beautiful, mostly because I could never play it.

I find the straight drive easier than the cover drive. Cuts I'm alright at, late cuts are swishes or edges 90% of the time.

Speaking of straight drives, I challenge anyone to watch the shots played at 0.40 and 1.48 and not purr with delight. I mean, how awesome is that!

The late cut is the connoisseur's stroke. It's always a gamble: timing, height and weight of shot have to be more or less perfect.
