Why don't they rest him from the JAMODIs????
http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-west-indies-2011/content/current/story/538256.html
To be fair to Dhoni, it seems to be the selectors who are considering resting him, rather than Dhoni himself requesting a rest.
As the test captain, would you really want to be rested for the next series after your side was completely stuffed 4-0? They could have rested him from the last two dead rubbers against England, and then rested him from the entire 5 match JAMODI series against the Windies. India are World Champions in that format, they and Dhoni have nothing to prove there. But tests? Tghey've just lost their number one ranking to England. To rest their talisman and captain from their next series would be a complete, BCCI-like slap in the face for the premier form of the game. C*nts.
Why the tests?? Madness, and it goes without saying- Ban India.

He's done this before hasn't he?
Obviously Dhoni his more concerned about money and personal glory than Indian cricket

Well, as the article said, it appears Dhoni himself hasn't requested a rest.

It was pisspoor of Dhoni not to hand over WK gloves to Patel in just finished ODI series against Eng. That way he could've given much needed rest to his badly bruised fingers.
Why is he so hellbent on donning WK gloves everytime he takes the field? Its not like that he has any competitors for WK slot.

Also, BCCI erred again in scheduling test series before the ODI series. By scheduling tests after ODIs would've given some more rest to injured Indian cricketers like Sehwag & Tendulkar and would've given Dhoni a chance to sit out of few not so important games.

Not to mention the fact that having the test series last would have meant good practice before the tour of Australia starting in December.

Re: Why don't they rest him from the JAMODIs????
incredible stuff. hopefully dhoni insists on being picked for the tests and then rested for the odis, like what was done last year for the kiwi series
there is almost a month's gap between the last test vs the windies and the first test vs the aussies

Trust BCCI to arrange a useless tri series in that period. How dare Indian cricketers get rest?there is almost a month's gap between the last test vs the windies and the first test vs the aussies

Oh, I forgot. There is already a 5-ODI series against WI. So there you go.

Yep, that too. Players would've been test mode when they reach Aus shores. But then BCCI has never been smart with its scheduling, why should this time be any different? Not to mention the fact that having the test series last would have meant good practice before the tour of Australia starting in December.

Yeah, what a sham. Still, it wouldn't harm India to give Toni a rest. He was hardly asserting his influence on many Test results in recent times anyway. Who'd be captain though? Don't tell me Dravid?
Re: Why don't they rest him from the JAMODIs????
Probably Sehwag.

So that was just a wild speculation from media. Nothing of this sort was even discussed in the selection committee meeting.

Squad for first Test: M S Dhoni (capt & wk), Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Virat Kohli, Varun Aaron, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Sharma
Good to see Bhajji and FTB being out of the squad. And even refreshing not to see the usual suspects like Sree and Praveen (bit surprising to him being excluded) in the squad though I'd have loved to see the kick on backside of Ishant.

Rahul Sharma is the bolter there. I guess they think he's the best leg spinner in India at the moment. Mishra was hammered in England, and Chawla hasn't progressed.
He wont play though.

Mishra has done no good to his prospects whenever he got a chance to play for India. Doesn't look like he'll come into reckoning anytime soon.

so
Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, M S Dhoni (capt & wk), R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and two of Pragyan Ojha/Umesh Yadav/Varun Aaron/Rahul Sharma for the first test
uber-weak bowling

Considering how WI capitulated against some novice Bangla in the 1st Test, whatever bowling line-ip that is put out will no doubt be enough.
Re: Why don't they rest him from the JAMODIs????
But BM, point is they didn't lose that test and are doing quite well in this test, Edwards bowling very well it seems.

Stronger than anything you put out in England. At least there's a couple of bowlers with a bit of pace there, rather than 123kph pie chuckers.
