Stupid AND Mental. (Aus Year 2011 stats)

Amazing that, despite his being Australia's leading run scoorer for 2011, many less-than-sensible people were calling for Hussey to be dropped from the Test team until a couple of days ago.

Now, with 2012 about to start, there are calls to drop the bloke who - at the start of the Boxing Day Test - was the leading wicket taker for the year.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Hussey only made 89 and could have been out at least three times.

Having said that, I found it very strange that people were calling for him to be axed but not Ponting, who has averaged 30 in 2011 compared to Hussey's 40 odd.

so where's the calendar year stats? I came for the stats!

When last did Aus use 21 players in a year?

1984 would be my first guess

2008 we used 23 (for 14 Tests)

Pretty remarkable stat that Elmer, at the beginning of the Boxing Day Test, was our leading wicket-taker for the calender year with just 22.

Elmer reminds me a bit of one of Quigley's pair of half-witted lackeys in Ballykissangel - the one who had a bit of a stutter and didn't wear a cap.

28 different players represented Australia in 11 Tests in 1984. Only three played in both the first and last of them.

But all youze Aussies can heave a big sigh of relief. Things are looking up. First Test bagged against India AND NZ.

As usual, the Aus media went way over the top today. Saying that Australian cricket is back on track, has found its mongrel again etc etc.

The phrase "cautiously optimistic" obviously hasn't been heard of in Australia. It's like every cricket writer is a manic depressive or something- Amazing highs, or devastating lows.

Aye ... just over a year ago the Ashes series was evenly poised at 1-all and it seemed possible that we would not go to sh!t. Some memories are short.

I wouldn't even go as far as 'cautious optimism'; I think 'gobsmacked astonishment' sums up the current situation better.

Tbh, sounds like typical English media... we're either world beaters or the worlds worst. Couldn't possibly be anything inbetween.

Also the case with the Indian media, I'm seeing a trend here.
