The random bouts of violence reported in the papers just won't be the same.

Thought he already had chucked it in.

A career that will go down as a phenomenal waste of talent. One truly pissed up against the wall.

His hundred at the MCG in the 06 Ashes Test was something to see, as it was when he shoulder charged a streaker (see 'Sucked in, dckhead' thread) but he never truly lived up to what he should have delivered.

And as for the original point of this thread...good on you Simmo, your general behavior (not counting the drinking) showed you to be better than than most.

I always associate him with the 2003 World Cup, starting with Sports Illustrated doing a Crap-ometer rating comparing Symonds with someone else. Symonds marginally escaped being named as the worst player to turn up at the tournament on the rather puzzling grounds that he was "a true blue Aussie with native Australian blood". (I guess the author didn't consult an atlas, otherwise he might have realised that Birmingham isn't in Australia, and that the Caribbean is some distance from the Outback.)

Still, what really made this an epic fail was Symonds' 143 against Pakistan and other performances that helped Australia win the WC...
