Warney retires from first class cricket!
If this doesn't bring Zim back, nothing will!
He's agreed not to come back to Hampshire this summer citing business (poker stuff), the IPL and his family as the reasons. Link.
Finishes with 1, 319 first class wickets at 26.11 apiece. Legend. Over-appealing legend but still - legend.

He could train in secret for the '09 Ashes though. Go to Russia like Rocky. He could even wrestle Thunderlips to get into shape.
Who'll be Hampshire's captain this season then? Can't see any outstanding candidates. No point giving it to KP really. Carberry or Pothas perhaps?

Sad day.
And Mascarenhas has been named to succeed him at Hampshire.

Inevitable once he decided he'd rather play poker than start the CC season with Hants.
Good luck to him.
Good luck to him.
Re: Warney retires from first class cricket!
Most of the time, I just thought he was a horrible abberation, and wished he would go away.
Now he has.
And I never saw him bowl.

Really? I thought Dimi was off to play in the IPL? Won't he miss loads of matches?

Luckily I did - he was turning it on a green top at New Road!!
We won't see anyone that good for a very long time.

Re: Warney retires from first class cricket!
He's a c*nt, people want to see the back of him - the quicker the better.
Re: Warney retires from first class cricket!
In all honesty, the reality was that the moment he signed up to the IPL, Hampshire were doomed.
What did he "sell" for? A half million? Plus sponsorship in India?
And for what? A few 4 hour sessions of T20 exhibition matches?
Now match that against his wage packet for a whole tiring season in CC, OD's, T20's etc.,
No contest I'd say.....
Good luck to him. He deserves all he gets.
The guy's been an excellent servant to cricket, a great performer, an entertainer extrordinaire and is now in the dusk of an illustrious career.
I will miss watching him though ... seen him enough times here in England (and on TV) to regard him as - IMO - the greatest spin BOWLER I ever saw.

Always are when a 'home-grown' does that!Brass Monkey wrote:I've seen Salesey tonk him a couple of times. Ahh, good times.
Or in the case of KP (SAf-grown) - when he put one from Warney into the top of the Tavern stand ...
a few hours after putting one from Hawaii back over his head into the Pavillion!
O yes, that 2005 was a very good year.
Good times.
