Hehehe. My middle bro has even taken to calling the Chief and I "the Griswolds". What can I say? I've been through my mid-life-crisis-and-need-a-sporty-car-to-make-me-feel-like-a-lad phase (A Subi 3.0 L Spec B and Subi 2.4 L Sports later), and now just need something to get me cheaply and reliably to work and back. The little Getz is a beauty for zipping through shitty city traffic.

Aye, and I had a 70 km trip to work at Winmalee. I used to have great fun ripping down the Galston Gorge, along Cattai Ridge Road and Springwood Rd. It was an hour and 20 minute trip at the speed limit - my daily goal was 1 hour (rarely met it but - stoopid slow traffic Very Happy). 55 minutes was the best I ever managed, but that was late at night going to a plant call out. In a little over 3 years doing that trip I hardly saw a single cop. Did get tailed on the way home one day from Windsor (I think he didn't like the look of my spoiler) and he followed me all the way to Glenorie. It's a boring trip at the speed limit. Evil or Very Mad

He would have got a shock if he pulled you over
1.  you would not have had a baseball cap on backwards
2. a middle aged tory is probably not what he would be anticipating

Indeed. I was sure he was gonna pull me over. Made for a very painful trip of over 30 minutes looking nervously at my speedo and rear vision mirror.

A mate at Uni had a Mazda Capella Rotary. Used to have to warm it up for 10 minutes or risk blowing oil seals, but jeez it used to go like the clappers.

An earlier model than that (R100) was VERY fast out of the blocks too ... sadly the engines didn't last long the way we treated them, eg 93 mph in 3rd, but the blue smoke wasn't a good sign. We all survived, amazingly.

After the Phillip Island races this weekend, Jamie Whincup takes a measly 20 point lead over Craig Lowndes into the season ending 300 points meeting at Sydney Olympic Park.

Come on, Lowndsie!!!

Ambrose back for Sydney

"Former champion Marcos Ambrose will make an early return to V8 Supercars as a wildcard at the season-ending Sydney 500 in early December.

Ambrose is to drive a third entry for Dick Johnson Racing at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit after winding up his nine-year career in American stock car racing over the next four weeks.
...
Ambrose admitted that returning to V8 Supercar racing at the tortuous 3.42-kilometre Sydney Olympic Park street circuit would be a big challenge.

"It looks like a gnarly circuit," he said. "It's going to be a baptism of fire for me. We're going to come down there and do our best and use it as a launching pad for 2015." "

Will be interesting to see how he goes.

Snake unimpressed with Whincup's contract extention

"V8 star Jamie Whincup's announcement of a contract extension with Red Bull Racing has hit a snag after he was bitten by a snake at the promotional event.

Six-time V8 Supercars series champion Whincup was at Taronga Zoo in Sydney to announce his contract extension with Red Bull, and posed for photos with a black-headed python.

But the python did its best to make itself the centre of attention, biting Whincup's right hand and holding on for a reported three minutes.

While the python left its victim's hand bloodied and punctured, Whincup was fine after having his hand treated.

Black-headed pythons are non-venomous.

"It was pretty painful," admitted Whincup."

Good point. I didn't catch the reasoning on the nooz coverage. Apparently* it was a pre-season promotion, but dunno why it was at Taronga. There's was chat about who should hold the python, so no surprise that the other drivers all expressed relief that the 2014 champion got the gig.
