Looks like I didn't start a 2017 thread. I have now. shrug

Congrats to young Cam Waters on his maiden V8 Supercar victory at Sandown today.

Ferkin Fords finished 1-2-3. Holdens looking wobbly leading into Bathurst.

Idiot donkey backmarker who can't drive unwrapped several metres of tyre wall on the 1st lap, FFS. As Nath alludes, it took organisers over an hour to repair the safety feature and allow the race to resume. Ferkin poor.

With Bathurst looming next weekend, here is some interesting news.

"A BRAND new racetrack will join the 2018 Supercars calendar with The Bend Motorsport Park confirmed as the sport’s second event in South Australia.

Locked into the calendar for August 24-26, the Supercars will use the International Circuit variant of the $110 million facility’s multiple configurations, making for an 18-turn, 4.9-kilometre lap length.

Supercars confirmed the debut race’s format will follow the SuperSprint schedule, with a 120 kilometre race on the Saturday followed by a 200 kilometre finale on the Sunday.

The remainder of the 2018 Supercars calendar has yet to be announced, but The Bend’s maiden event falls on the race weekend occupied in 2017 by the Sydney SuperSprint at Sydney Motorsport Park, the championship’s sole round in the New South Wales capital."

How does SA afford a new race track?

Oh that's right - it was bought from MB and Zim's GST money.

After the Gold Coast weekend, there is less than 30 points covering the top 3 places in the Championship, with Whincup just in front.

There are just 2 rounds to go - Auckland and Newcastle.

Whincup bent his steering and suffered a flat on the 1st lap of the penultimate race. He's farked now.

Whincup needs to finish 11 places ahead of Scott McLaughlin today to take the Championship. Pretty hard to finish 11 clear of 1st.

It's the Kiwi's Championship to lose today.

The most amazing finish to the season.

With Whincup leading the last race, several errors saw McLaughlin back as far as 21st. He fought his way back to 13th (needing 11th to win the Championship).

After a long battle with the cars in 11th and 12th, with two laps to go he got into 11th spot but was being hunted by Whincup's team mate Craig Lowndes. If Lowndes got by him, he would lose the championship.

McLaughlin made a mistake, Lowndes was overtaking him on the inside up the Watts St straight and McLaughlin moved across and shunted Lowndes into the concrete and copped a deserved penalty. Season over for the young Kiwi.

Whincup wins the 2017 championship.
