End of an era. Still, they'd have to call them The Crawling Bones pretty soon anyway.

They were always better than the Beatles, but it is probably about time they packed it in!

Pretty telling that Led Zep were a million times better on their comeback at the o2 than the Stones have been for the past few years.

Unless you are talking about the second comment, in which case I admit I'm making an assumption based on the fact that they are approaching 70. I can't see how they could still be decent live at that age, but admittedly I haven't seen them live.

Sounded like a sweeping generalisation and as the Beatles predated the Stones they couldn't have been always better.

A little pedantic, seeing as I wasn't born in that era I thought it obvious that I meant I've always preferred the Stones to the Beatles.taipan wrote:vilkrang wrote:Personal opinion .taipan wrote:vilkrang wrote:They were always better than the Beatles, but it is probably about time they packed it in!

Although I'd rate The Velvet Underground over both of them.

I'd say The Beatles were more influential in terms of songwriting in a broader pop idiom and the Stones more influential in the r+b genre, which the Beatles pretty much left behind in '64, but the Stones remain with to this day.
Whichever you prefer the music we hear now wouldn't exist as it does without either band: they're both massive.

Fair comment Jon, but I might go further and say that the Stones would not have existed if it hadn't been for the Beatles.

I know the influence they had. I just don't like hardly any of their songs.

I know my tunes, Jonty, FFS!! I have all of Kajagoogoo songs... The Kids From Fame! all sorts of good 'uns... Norman Wisdom... B*Witched... so f*ck you and your peasant. I know whom history will judge the schlep.
Re: Tell me it aint so
Fair play, Dan. I didn't realise you were so steeped in popular culture..
There does seem to be a glaring omission of Boyzone there, but I daresay you couldn't include all of the greats in such a brief rant.

Exactly. Key To My Life is my favourite. I like my Boyzone classic. The most lyrically brilliant tune I've heard is that "No Way, No Way (Mnah Mnah)" tune by Vanilla. There's real conviction when they sing "Don't get fresh with me". I'm welling up thinking about it.

YOU BASTARD. What an abomination.
It somehow got to number 14 though. Just shows the kind of crap people buy because everyone else buys it. Weak, pathetic humans.

WTF is wrong with that tune? Don't you love when they talk in the middle of it? Or is it the start? I daredn't play it to find out.

Aren't they talking the whole way through? Or does that fall within your classification of "singing"?
It's a bit near the end, but you have to watch the video to see what I mean...

I remember I'd have only taken a whack at one, maybe two of them. Which, for the horny little grub I was, was quite a damning indictment. They were from some horrendous place like Barnet, which sort of says it all!
Re: Tell me it aint so
The video "was filmed at Brockwell lido in Brixton".
What an exotic and fun-filled shoot that must have been.
