Re: South Africa v WI, 1st Test, Port Elizabeth, 26-30 Dec
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
It's been a long long time.
A win in test cricket? Away from home? Against the number 2 ranked team?
Whats going on?
They really do seem to enjoy playing under Gayle as captain.

I knew they could do it.
Well Done West Indies.
I hope their batting can hold out all series though.

What will happen when Sarwan is back and in form enough to regain his place?

Prolly, but I was meaning re. the captaincy. Suppose one swallow doesn't make a Summer, but if WI go on to play very well for the rest of the tour under Gayle, will Sarwan come back as skip in any event?

Doesn't matter. With Sarwan back the batting becomes stronger. The fielders didn't make stupid mistakes this time, which really helped the WIndies.
SA need to make changes int heir batting line-up.

I don't think so. A win overseas almost assures Gayle the captaincy for a couple of years.

Fantastic win. Couldn't believe my eyes. Can't see them winning the series but still brilliant.

Time for a drink me thinks.
Most pleasing thing other than the win itself was the performances of Marlon Samuels and Jerome Taylor.
Two exceptionally talented Jamaicans fully fit and performing up to their potential for once.

I'm in the UK at the moment, but I can picture the scene at home thats for sure.
Word is that BCL has already called the guys to congratulate them on their victory.

Hope they're not still busy French-kissing each other while they fold meekly in the next two Tests.
Focus.

Awesome win
It's their first win in South Africa, and their first win anywhere for two years
It's also the first time they have beaten an established Test nation since Edgbaston in 2000.

The party is well and truly on:
Normally I would tell them not to get carried away with one test victory, but sod it, party away guys. Its the West Indian way.
Team Photo
Bravo sings calypso in the dressing room
Gayle, Ramdin and Morton dance to Bravo's tune

Re: South Africa v WI, 1st Test, Port Elizabeth, 26-30 Dec
No doubt there are still a huge amount of problems to deal with and we won't be permanently competitive until we deal with them.
Ganga, Morton, Devon Smith etc are clearly not test class, and we need our promising young batsman like Barath, Pollard, Daren Bravo etc to develop quickly and make it into the side.
The bowling attack is coming on nicely though, and that is something to celebrate.

WI had SA on the backfoot for the most of the match and called the shots. They were lucky that Smith put them in though; that was a crucial decision. Hard to see how a captain could get it so wrong.

WD to the west indies, whether it's just a happy day amidst the long term pain or a genuine turn around will be better judged at the end of the series.
I hope they come out with real intent to win the series in the 2nd test.
