Wood loses testicle in Grand Final

Warrington's Paul Wood lost a testicle after sustaining an agonising injury in the [English] Super League Grand Final.

Remarkably, the prop played on after rupturing a testicle early in the second half of the match, which Warrington lost 26-18 to Leeds at Old Trafford.

Wood even conducted media interviews after the game before going to hospital where he was operated on. He tweeted late on Saturday night to fellow rugby league star Leon Pryce: "Ruptured my right testicle mate, got a knee 1 minute into the second half, had to have it removed tonight."

He joked on Sunday: "Just coming out the hospital to go home... Seriously feel like I've left something???"

Happened to a Sydney player some years ago, and he played the whole match too.

And you can't even credit him with having the balls to finish the match!

Well fair play to both of them. I'd probably be tanking the whiskey and sobbing.

Wasn't Justin Langer told in 2006 that if he received another blow to his head (he had recently been hit two times) that he would likely die? And then you've got rugby players like Martin Johnson who have to live the rest of their lives with horrible looking 'cauliflower ears' because they refused to wear headgear when playing rugby.

Considering a lot of these guys have young families, it's surprising that they don't think more about their lives after they have retired from professional sport.

I'd say the same thing about al the young people these days getting tattoos. In 40 years there will be a generation of ageing people deeply regretting the ink that adorns their wrinkly, sagging skin.

How will a guy explain to his grandson that, 40 years before, the tortoise on his biceps started out life as a dragon?

You've reminded me of this article I read recently. You sort of have to agree with the view that tattoo removal is a future boom business - particularly in moderately affluent areas:

You know something's not right when the industry that boomed more than most in the wake of Krudd's $950 stimulus was the tattoo industry. The Hells Angels salute you, Kruddy.

The idiocy of youf.

A laser crackles like an electronic fly zapper as Darren Speight begins to attack the outline of a dolphin inked on to Antoinette Higgins’ right breast. Eighteen years ago, at 16, Higgins had the animal tattooed high enough to be displayed while wearing a bikini but low enough to escape her mother’s eye. “Mum always said ‘don’t’,” she says, grimacing, as a dull grey crust forms around the dolphin’s snout. “So I did.”
I'd say a dolphin is an unfortunate choice anyway. Once the muscle tone goes, it is sure to turn into a shark.

I remember a guy I worked with who had had a huge eagle done on his arm when he was a sailor. He covered it up successfully until one day when his sleeve slipped up, and all was revealed. B-a-a-d timing, as he had just been promoted to a position just below that of the boss...

Worst tattoo I have seen ... an RAN veteran, blood group tattooed on his R shoulder. Unfortunately, it was wrong. Not so bad ... if you're not a transplant patient, which he was.
