is the MCG the olympus of sport?
hmmn...a test attendance record at the MCG (I was there in the 60-61 series as a little kid when the old record was set)...
the G is a remarkable place...from the nursing home I have a great view of the stadium and feel blessed every day..
over my long life grandstands have built down and replaced again and again...but the atmosphere remains the same..
nothing remains from the 50s, 60s and 70s buildings ...yet the joint sweats history...Olympics, Commie Games, AFL and ultimately cricket have all shone there...even this year 90,000 sports crazed Melbournians rocked up to watch a friendly between Liverpool and some hapdash local soccer team...Gerrard or one of his team mates said they had never heard that many people sing "you'll never walk alone"..
in a dead rubber....with two ill matched teams...still the G was chock a block...prolly the only ground where the barmy army are out-noised..
good times

Ah, so like the bannies, it is not about fairness in sport but all about the money.

Absolute BS horrie and you know it. CA has stated often that they cannot afford to lose the income from the Boxing Day match.
Actually a pretty good crowd at Kingsmead, probably boosted by Kallis's retirement. Battling to find the actual stats.
I am guessing that you would also like to see five match series between SA and Aus?

Oh so you agree. I am assuming you are saying they should only be played in Australia then?

ROFL...suggest that Oz and the Saffies play 5 test series in consecutive summers but with the following sort of fixture that provides 5 tests in both countries
Summer 1 in Oz - Brisbane, Wanderers, Boxing day test at the G, Sydney,, the G
Summer 2 in Saffie - Wanderers, BD Test at the G, 3 other Saffie grounds

72,000...not bad for a day 2 crowd...prolly bigger than the aggregate crowd that Durbs will achieve over the 5 days there

It's a baize shirtfront featherbed belter when Oz bat on it, a treacherous scrapyard minefield when our brave boys eke out their few meagre runs.

Agree Horace. Melbourne not only has the best stadium but Melburnians' patronage of the game is like no other, year in , year out.
