Well yeah true at the time most of us were of the opinion that Bresnan was County dross. Still is at times in ODIs.....

Tries too much in ODIs. Probably goes for all of England's bowlers bar Swann. It's not rocket science. A good line and length will still cause a batsman problems in an ODI or T20.
That's where Dernbach needs to improve. His slower ball is almost his stock ball. If he can keep it up his sleeve a bit more it will be doubly effective when he DOES bowl it.

I'll let GesticulatingWhinger Swann and Shortball Broad off as they still haven't completely failed to adhere to that should be standard in ODIs. The other three (well not Jade, really but I'm not sure it looks promising), hmmm, since this thread:
Anderson - 74 Matches, 90 Wickets - Average 34.97, Econ 5.41
Bresnan - 49 Matches, 62 Wickets - Average 34.85, Econ 5.34
Dernbach - 8 Matches, 12 Wickets - Average 30.91, Econ 6.08
Shamola, IMO. I'm sure Gary, Peter and Lever will be in here defending such crapness, but I just don't particularly see the need to defend mediocrity.

Jimmy is only half useful in ODIs played in England. Complete pants in the Sub Continent. I think a stat was shown during the World Cup that said in his last 5 games in India, his combined figures were 0-250 with an economy rate of over 7, or something like that. Awful.

Aye dreaded really, I'm surprised that so little analysis has been done by the England staff - the reality is that he was attrocious in the WC, so then they should've looked back, come up with these stats (4 years worth!!!) and thought that maybe, just maybe he shouldn't be the shoo-in he currently is. As Dello says, drop him, let him rest. We know what he can do and if required on tours he can (not) do the job.

Re: England team changes for saturdays decider
Even I apparently made some sort of KP comparison based on some highlights I saw of him in 2007.
Let's face it- Luke Wright has some special, magical power whereby he is able to convince all who see him that he's a good cricketer.
Me, Bas, Dello, Peter Moores, Geoff Miller, some Australian Big Bash League team......he's got us all wrapped around his little finger....
I'm a little bit scared, to be honest. He'll probably wind up as Prime Minister or something.

TBH, I'm more than sure you could find a post where I rated him too. Fact is, were he to have kicked on he'd have been a good cricketer. But no semblance whatsoever of improvement in these four years. Not a jot. In fact you could say his bowling has regressed.

He did have a shot. I think at the time he was averaging 40-odd in FC cricket and could bowl at a decent lick - there was some potential, I thought.
But any time you're talking up a bloke's potential, you're extrapolating his ability to improve over time. Wright's game hasn't developed one iota. Useless f*cking twat.
What can you do?
Re: England team changes for saturdays decider
Well, he seems to be a trier, i'll give him that. But he's not a natural, is he. His bowling looks like such hard work- Like a disabled cricketer who's won a competition to play in the England team for a day, running in with all his might, giving it everything, the little fighter that could, and the mean, unsympathetic, bullying, fully capable batsman goes and whacks him for six.
