Matt Prior- Great?

Well?

I'm tempted to rank him as second only to Adam Gilchrist as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

Nearly 3,700 runs at 45.6 is some effort. Don't know where he is, but I'm just so glad to have him. He regularly digs us out of the shit.

And he has improved his keeping.

He had a cat's nine lives today, but I've thought for a couple of years (and said on here, before it was trending/trendy - ) that he is worth his weight in gold - he has (im)proved to be valuable as anyone on the England team, and quite often the most valuable of them all. In contributions with bat and gloves, in terms of mettle, contributions to team morale and also the standing of the team in public. (He regularly hits the right notes in interviews - neither an airhead nor a charlatan, and comes across as realistic and modest for all his typical wickie on-field chirpiness.)


ATG? I don't really do that, except in jest, or when recalling forgotten ones, and thus considering the various panoplies of cricket history.

Partly because I don't want to Trev any current valuable player.

Flower was probably a better batsman but not as good a keeper.

and some are better keepers than prior but not as good as batsmen

cant remember flower being poor. prior certainly was at the start of his career

Prior is now 3rd in the averages for those that have kept in over 20 matches

There is an argument for Flower being better than Gilchrist.

Agreed, I shuddered when I saw this thread posted. The career wrecker is doing his hardest to F England in the A.

no doubt Prior has become an excellent batsman keeper...

it is interesting when both Haddin and Prior started off their batting was ok and their keeping ordinairy - I thought they were level

But Prior has improved his batting and he is now reliable keeper - Haddin became Haddit as his keeping particularly on his left side deteriorated and his batting declined from a reasonable start

aye....tho I think wade shd get a tour but with maybe Hartley there...if clarke does not tour I wd select hartley as keeper and captain

hartley is a tough and mean banjo who would as happliy kidney punch oz nobs like warner if they underperform or the SF as kick the tripe out of the opposition

Yeah, I'm as glad about his keeping - had some stunning leg side takes of recent times.
