Matt Prior- Great?
Well?
I'm tempted to rank him as second only to Adam Gilchrist as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

Nearly 3,700 runs at 45.6 is some effort. Don't know where he is, but I'm just so glad to have him. He regularly digs us out of the shit.
Re: Matt Prior- Great?
And he has improved his keeping.

Re: Matt Prior- Great?
He had a cat's nine lives today, but I've thought for a couple of years (and said on here, before it was trending/trendy - ) that he is worth his weight in gold - he has (im)proved to be valuable as anyone on the England team, and quite often the most valuable of them all. In contributions with bat and gloves, in terms of mettle, contributions to team morale and also the standing of the team in public. (He regularly hits the right notes in interviews - neither an airhead nor a charlatan, and comes across as realistic and modest for all his typical wickie on-field chirpiness.)
ATG? I don't really do that, except in jest, or when recalling forgotten ones, and thus considering the various panoplies of cricket history.
Partly because I don't want to Trev any current valuable player.

Flower was probably a better batsman but not as good a keeper.

Re: Matt Prior- Great?
Prior is now 3rd in the averages for those that have kept in over 20 matches
There is an argument for Flower being better than Gilchrist.

Re: Matt Prior- Great?
Andy Flower had a shocking tour of England behind the stumps. That's probably what Trev remembers. I do. Couldn't catch AIDS in a South African brothel.
Re: Matt Prior- Great?
Yes, that is indeed what I remember. That and Ed Giddins demolishing the hapless Zimbos with his toxic blend of coked up dobbers.

Re: Matt Prior- Great?
Thank fark for this thread. Now all we need is for Trev to start the following threads
Cook - Great?
Trott - Great?
Jimmy - Great?
and we may have a chance of not being totally humiliated

Agreed, I shuddered when I saw this thread posted. The career wrecker is doing his hardest to F England in the A.
Re: Matt Prior- Great?
no doubt Prior has become an excellent batsman keeper...
it is interesting when both Haddin and Prior started off their batting was ok and their keeping ordinairy - I thought they were level
But Prior has improved his batting and he is now reliable keeper - Haddin became Haddit as his keeping particularly on his left side deteriorated and his batting declined from a reasonable start

Re: Matt Prior- Great?
So really, it'd be neither? Isn't it shit when you know there no chance of that happening?
Re: Matt Prior- Great?
aye....tho I think wade shd get a tour but with maybe Hartley there...if clarke does not tour I wd select hartley as keeper and captain
hartley is a tough and mean banjo who would as happliy kidney punch oz nobs like warner if they underperform or the SF as kick the tripe out of the opposition

Re: Matt Prior- Great?
I reckon Aus need someone like that - they've gone too metrosexual and 'lulz'. They need some demon to rape their souls.
Re: Matt Prior- Great?
hmmn....would agree, other than the joint and its cricket team are both souless these days
