The EPL thread (II)
Continued from part one: HERE (Warden)
I have seen Ronaldinho miss penalties. He tries to be took tricky and gets his bearings wrong.
Never have I seen Christiano miss.

Best 2 penalty takers I ever saw were in the 1980's John Wark & 1990's Matt Le Tissier
Le Tissier despatched 46 out of 47 pens taken

I thought Maradona was the best I've seen.
But he proceeded to miss five (yes five in a row) late in his career in Argentina.

Yo Mak, I suggest you suscribe to Sky and tune in to 'Revista De La Liga'. As good as Ronaldo is, and yes, I know I hate him, but even I acknowledge the diving, cheating, portugese farkwit has got talent. The boy Messi is on a different level. Ronaldo is undoubtedly a good player, but with so little to chose between them the fact Messi is almost two and a half years younger and nowt but a bairn gives him the edge.
Most England fans hate him because of WC06, he's changed a lot from when he's started, as good as Messi is (imo he is superb, love watching him play) atm i would take Ronaldo 17 goals in 17 games says it all, he was the most influential player in the Premier League last year and the biggest factor why United had such a good season (23 goals and 20+ assists), take a look at what Barca won last season.
It's not just his dribbling/passing/shooting, people tend to ignore his great positional play and his knack of getting into goalscoring positions from midfield, he's very intelligent.
"Ronaldo is brilliant but graceless"
I would agree with you if you said that 2 and half years ago, but now he's improved a lot yes he does dive now and then but which player does not? i've seen the great Thierry Henry dive disgracefully at times too.

Re: The EPL thread (II)
I think to be a great penalty taker you've got to be able to place them and blast them. If you've just got one style of penalty goalkeepers tend to work you out after a while.
Bergkamp was like this, tried to place everything, and after a while keepers started to get the better of him. Le Tissier was a good one because he could send the keeper the wrong way or smash it in the top corner. Saying that, he missed one on the Soccer Saturday Xmas special the other day...

I don't think Shearer missed many, if any. He was a smasher.

Shearer was a very good penalty taker, but i'm sure he did miss one or two for Newcastle, and he definitely missed one for England in Poland once.

Not at all, LLL.
Henry was very creative and a good finisher.
But if it wasn't for the likes of Viera doing all the hard work in the midfield and Pires setting him up, then he is over-rated (if we are comparing him to the greats)
He hasn't set the world on fire in Internationals imo either. By internationals I mean matches that matter.

Re: The EPL thread (II)
Henry scored many goals out of nothing.
He is the best player to have played in the Premier League by quite some distance.
He's a striker, inevitably he's going to do all his work in the opposition half, unlike someone like Viera.
Also had an excellent Euro 2000 when France won their third major title.

I sincerely hope you're taking the p*ss. He's a striker. Last time I checked, a strikers role is to score and create goals. Viera is not a striker. Henry is not a box to box midfielder. This may be the silliest thing I've ever read. It's like saying Ronaldo had Emerson, Silva and Edmilson covering for him and Rivaldo supplying - therefore he's not great.
Lay off the crack and the Robbie Williams, mate.
As for Internationals - all time France top scorer. France's top scorer at World Cup 98. You know, the one they won. France's top scorer in Euro 2000. You know, the one they won. France's top scorer in World Cup 2006. Knocked Brazil out with his goal.
