The documents disclose a diplomatic campaign to persuade Bangladeshi officials to accept the assistance, and "face-saving" suggestions on keeping it low-key to avoid offending Bangladeshi sensitivities."


And yet they have no qualms about their cricket team by and large damaging national pride for the last 12 years.

Good point! Terrible stuff, though, I wouldn't be pleased if my relative was a victim that could've been saved. Honestly, pride, f*cking overrated.

terrible, terrible tragedy though. they had a massive fire a little while ago as well. if the only trade advantage they have is costs then they are going to cut those somewhere

Exporting cheap clothes accounts for 80% of Bangladesh's GDP. I think public pressure after this tragedy is going to force clothing chains to think twice before doing business with Bangladesh.

So it's going to fark the Banger people up even more.

Or force the people in Bangladesh who get rich from it all, like the tubby, scared shitless looking owner of the building who now faces the death penalty, or assassination, to distribute the money more evenly, and for the Bangladeshi Government to improve building standards.

The problem of course is that it's because of the lesser costs that Bangladeshi textiles are imported. With labour as cheap as it is and the competitiveness there's not much of an incentive for a large scale businessman to change environments.

For all that's said, Chittagong still remains frighteningly dangerous for labourers who take down ships. But it's still the place to go for them to be destroyed.
