Pub quiz question Empty Pub quiz question

Post by Gildas Fri 04 Jan 2008, 23:54

The final question in our local pub quiz this week was: Which cricketer has the lowest test batting average of all players to have scored a test century? I guessed (wrongly to much mocking from my friends who seem to think i should know everything about cricket) at Kumble. Now its more than possible the answer is a player from the 1880's who i have never even heard of, but i was wondering if anyone could enlighten me?

If it's not someone obscure and from long ago- how about Saqlain Mushtaq?

The last question is always for the team thats won the main quiz to get the cash prize, otherwise you just get drinks. They never give you the answer to that final question if you dont get it right.

Sounds like a scam to me. If you get it right, but they don't want to give you the cash, they just say 'nope, laddy, that's wrong, now finish your free drink and fook off'. They should always give the correct answer in circumstances like that IMO.

It seems to be Saqlain (average 14.48 ) . But i suppose it's possible that Saqlain could yet play anopther test.

Xenophon Constantine Balaskas of South Africa averaged 14.50 in the 1930s. Surely the finest name of any test cricketer. By getting out for 29 rather than 30 in his last innings in 1939 Balaskas took the record from Jack Badcock (average 14.54).

And in third would be Clayvel Lindsay 'Jack' Badcock, a Test average of 14.54, despite scoring 118 in his third Test. he only managed a total of 160 in a 7-Test career.

His first class average was 51.5, he scored over 7,000 FC runs, including 26 tons, and at least one triple.

Looks like it. Very Happy

If anyone is looking for an enigmatic name for a child, I reckon Xenophon Constantine would come a close second to Wolfgang Amadeus.
