Agar looks like he could be ok if he is kept away from the Test team for a couple of seasons and allowed to develop in FC cricket

There is an extra spot available in the squad for a second spinner. It seems to be between Agar and Ahmed. So far Agar has out-bowled Ahmed, and their faith in Lyon is far from absolute. So yeah, Agar will probably be playing in the first test for Aus, and if he's good enough, why not. I've heard comparisons with a young Vettori?

"Ahmed's spot on Ashes team in doubt after modest return
Fawad Ahmed's aspirations of representing his adopted nation in the Ashes have received a reality check, while suspended batsman David Warner looks likely to slide down the order if he plays in the first Test.
Selectors were due to make a decision on Sunday as to whether Ahmed remains in England. Whether he stays with the squad, the Pakistan-raised leg-spinner's struggle against Gloucestershire on Saturday suggested the great expectations generated by his remarkable rise to Test contention should be tempered.
...
After an encouraging first innings spell, in which he claimed 1-20 from 9.2 overs, the 31-year-old was targeted by Gloucestershire's Australian all-rounder Dan Christian, who smashed him for three sixes and four fours."

It was all a bit unrealistic. The desperate hope of unearthing a new part-Warnie.
I won't say i told you so................stuff it..yes i will.

stevie nix....bloody Bernie's stinking stale corpse produces wafts of bad smells ...the other selectors confuse these for brilliant ideas....hence steve smith gets added to the squad as cover....cover for what....bernie's coffin...a new rug for pup's chest...time to burn down the cornfields and a certain office in Jolimont

Actually I thought Smith was the one of the few Aussies that showed all any balls in India and was surprised that he wasn't in the original squad.

Although it is not saying much, I bet Swann would much rather see twatto, the reinventor and hughes in the side than Smith

As if any of them will still be batting when Swann gets the ball ...

Re Ahmed- Since when did first class stats start dictating which spinner gets chosen for Australia? England would have seen a Pakistani-born leg spinner and started batting against him with their eyes shut, feet set in concrete and faces permanently set to 'Vaughan'.
A mistake to send him home.

Apparently Ussie has been ajmaling a few down in the nets and they figure thats probably our best spin option (and Ussies only hope of selection)

I wonder if debate over adding smith and sending Fawad home had something to do with all of this

I don't know what he ever did to make anyone think he was anything out of the ordinary. He may do it, but he hasn't done it yet.
