The Final Test
When do you think the players in this series will retire / play their final Test?
I reckon for England:
Cook - 2020
Root - 2028
Trott - 2015
Pietersen - 2014
Bell - 2018
Baristow - 2018
Prior - 2015
Bresnan - 2017
Broad - 2020
Swann - 2015
Anderson - 2019
Expect a slew of changes after the 2015 Ashes. I think Anderson will have a longish career - until 36, and Bell, much to the forums displeasure will have a few comebacks in him.
Pietersen to bomb out after the away Ashes in a foul-mouthed Twitter tirade. Root will play forever.
Bairstow to get dropped in a couple of years, make a brief comeback as a wicket-keeper/batsman before finally being dropped for good as some yet unknown wicket-keeping tyro bursts onto the scene.

Re: The Final Test
I think Pietersen will retire after the India series next year. Prior and Swann should have three or four years left, each. Cook ... I can see him playing another 10 years, personally.

Re: The Final Test
can't see Jimmykins lasting till 2019, the end comes rather quick for fast bowlers - see Hoggy.

Well, Hoggy was ditched rather prematurely after one bad series. Can't see the same happening with Jimmy unless an amazing crop of young bowlers emerges. Injuries could do for him though especially if he's overworked.

I think Jimmy is street-wise: you rarely see him putting in an effort ball reaching into the high 80s mph these days. He's comfortable bowling within himself and I reckon he's got five years left in him.

Hopefully, but they could overdo it with him in terms of JAMODIs, JAMITTs and long spells if others don't step up.

I think Jimmy's re-emergence pretty much did for Hoggard too. You don't usually need two swing bowlers, especially not three (SiBo was England's best bowler that year), IIRC it was Jimmy who knocked Hoggard out of the team and he's pretty much blocked Onions chance of becoming a regular too.
That's one thing that is the unknown when predicting players futures - a youngster may come along that knocks them out of contention.

No, he's the new Jimmy - in and out of the team for 5 years before something clicks and he becomes really good. Probably.

Re: The Final Test
Don't think Anderson will quite have that longevity. Still have memories of the likes of Hayden plundering him all over the ground. Obviously the terrible Aussie line-up gives the impression he can last forever but as has been mentioned when you're in your thirties, the decline can come swiftly.

MTFTB? I reckon he should be glad he's not on this tour. He was always shit in England, he would be moreso with Jimmy moving the ball both ways.

True, but in oz he hit Jimmy everywhere. The point is though is that it will be tougher for Anderson once he doesn't get to bowl at this rabble. Think he found Amla and co. a bit more challenging. He's 31 now. In a few years time particularly with more bodily attrition, he may be struggling a bit. Another six years is perhaps a tad optimistic.

Re: The Final Test
Six years is very, very optimistic. I was on about you going on about the flat track bully, bullying a very raw James Anderson on a flat track. I thought I'd put you incredibly dire and incredibly dour 'caveat' to beddy-byes.

It seems Jim Maxwell wants to part of this thread.

Seconded!
He's painfully pompous and arrogant. Last night he was rather puerile the way he kept trying to make lewd jokes about Joe Root and the size of our defeat.

Clever. Of course Hughes was the last skipper to lose six in a row. Wonder if we'll see a lachrymose Clarke at a press conference in the not too distant future.

Clarke will probably call it quits at the end of the Sydney test, which (I think) will be his 100th test match on his home ground (assuming his back doesn't force him to miss a test between now and then).

Scratch that. Barring injury his 100th test will be at Perth.
