If Belf goes early though it could still be over inside half an hour. Big opportunity for Prior or one of the lower order to make a major contribution though.

If we can bat the first session we'll probably be around 300 ahead.

Yeah, the weather doesn't look great, but should be good for the first session without interruption.
As for the match situation, it all depends how the pitch plays, I suppose. 200, by rights, shouldn't be enough going on how it played last evening. Aus are into the tail as it is - only Broad, really, has shown some resistance out of our bottom five - get Bell out early and they're in with a shout of chasing 240.

Cook could declare now and it still be enough, given that Australia are effectively a man down with Watson going lame again.

According to Morne Morkel's girlfriend , CSA expects him to bat but not to bowl. He will be assessed when he arrives at the ground this morning but no official injury prognosis re. how long he'll be out etc., has come to light.taipan wrote:What is the latest on Watson?Blackadder wrote:Cook could declare now and it still be enough, given that Australia are effectively a man down with Watson going lame again.

Just had a morning match briefing with Adam Hollioake as the guest speaker. He was pretty funny and thoughtful and realistic about his talent.
He talked about his boxing and MMA career ( 4 boxing bouts for 3 wins, 3 MMA fights undefeated).
Someone asked him how he would have fought David Warner to which he replied " Mate, I'm not into dwarf throwing".

I would say ...
With a lead of 240, I'd give the Australians an even chance.
With a lead of 300, maybe twenty to 1. England should feel very comfortable if it gets to that point. Nothing is impossible but with a man down Australia would need basically everything to go right for them (ie they would need much better fortune than they have encountered so far.)

Can't see England capitulating this morning like Australia did.
They'll at least make it to the new ball.

In the 2005 Ashes he made 171 runs. In the 2009 jobby, 140.

Bell goes to one that kept low. The new ball is darting all over the place.

Belly goes. Terrible times. We're only 220 ahead. A typical weak display from the tail and Aus are right in this.
