Re: India v West Indies, 2nd Test, Mumbai, 14-18 November, 2013
I think it is fitting that SRT did not get a farewell 100. A sign that he is also a human was much needed and not a God. There are no such things as perfect farewells. Those who got them were most lucky in a bout of co-incidences. Ganguly got a great series win against Aus, against who his legacy as team captain started in 2001. Laxman was destroyed in his last series running against age and injury against the very same Aus who he destroyed with absolute disrespect over a decade. The legend called Laxman, India's greatest test saver never even got a farewell test from a biased BCCI. Ditto Dravid our ultimate test champion. Look at Azharuddin. He didn't get a farewell test and his career ended in a disgraceful ban but he has a 100 in both - his first and last test innings he played for India......Destiny can be most cruel on many champions or generous where least expected.
Thats it then. End of SRT. Career of SRT the cricketer is over but his career as brand ambassador will continue. Kapil Dev was the most commericially successful brand ambassadors even after two and half decades follwing his WC winning success. SRT will overtake him on that score for the next two decades, to be followed by Dhoni.
For me it was irritating when the likes of Gavaskar who knows how hard it is to bat in the middle and who know the game, loosely talk of SRT even getting a 300 this test. an't this twats just stick to the game and let people enjoy the flow without building up unrealistic expectations in the commentary box?

Anywho, well played to the Great Little Man. We are unlikely to see a career of his magnitude + quality again.

I think he will regret that rush of blood shot for a long time, given that he was playing half well after nearly a year and a half.

Also, I hate this match. Get offered tickets for tomorrow. Brilliant.... if I were anywhere near Mumbai, and the local STB provider has cocked up the registration which means I'm stuck watching some random farming show and Jayalalitha propaganda since the morning. Everything's a qunt.

that's not how BCCI operatesBatman wrote:Innings win looks nearly on at this stage unless quick wickets fall tomorrow. How I wish BCCI has invited a stronger team like SA/Eng for this 'farewell' series.

If I listen to any more of the sycophantic guff coming out of the mouths of the Indian commentators, I will actually be sick.

He is not really dead you know. This sense of morbid dread in your post is unnerving....Lets face it everything comes to and end. Life itself too. This day was always going to come.
Celebrate the great career and innings he played so often and tell your kids about him someday. Better still this is the age of videos and digital preservation so show them his stuff and keep watching them over and over again. Because he is really not gone that way.

Thank the grace of the Lords and W.G. Grace that you did not have to suffer the era of home cricket as covered by Neo Sports here with same shit and even worse in pathetic local Hindi language where the also rans like Arun Lals, Madan Lals, Amarnaths etc sang songs, stammered their lines and played guessing games instead of being objective and overall pretending to be lovetsruck star eyed dutiful housewives. You don't get to listen to Jimmy Amarnath singing Punjabi songs for Dhoni like he were his lover from some Bollywood movie now don't you?Basil wrote:If I listen to any more of the sycophantic guff coming out of the mouths of the Indian commentators, I will actually be sick.

2 milestones SRT missed that many best batsmen in his days from his team and other nations have achieved. So no achievements are all that perfect:
* Not getting a 300 in his career in tests.
* Not making back to back 100s over both innings in same test.
* Not getting a 300 in his career in tests.
* Not making back to back 100s over both innings in same test.

Vinod Kambli style start to his Test career for Rohit. Well played him.
Shillingford chucked manfully for another Michelle. That 80 run 10th wicket stand may be the difference between an innings defeat and a 10 wicket defeat.
