Re: Graeme Swann retires from international cricket with immediate effect
Retirement from FC cricket surprises me. IS Trev right about IPL becoming the Chinn's main income, or will he be snapped up by various commboxs. I think he'd be good in a Bumble chuckly type of way.
Anywho, congrats on a great, if prematurely ended, career, Mr Swann.

A non-existent thing cannot be reduced in quantity. So they are fine on that end.

20/20 leagues (not just IPL) have had a massive affect on "cricket as we know it". This point does not seem to be appreciated enough on this forum. Early retirements when they can easily go on (if for no other reason that there is no better alternative, hence position secure) is just one of those affects. Hussey is another who surely would not have quit if not for money, and lots of it, coming in through what is called the circus.

Oh, we get it, AG, but we certainly DON'T appreciate it. 20/20 cricket is corrupting the Great Game significantly - for the poorer, IMHO.

I reckon Chinn's good mate Jimmeh will be quite gutted at this turn of events.

How would we be able to tell? Looks a miserable f*cker at the best of times.

Yes I understand that, and agree as well for the most part. But the blame lies with the Great Game itself, in my humble opinion. Its a long debate though....

Re: Graeme Swann retires from international cricket with immediate effect
This just smacks of more chaos to me. Trying to justify it as "rebuilding" like Australia tried to badge their madness of a year ago when everyone was so unsure of their spot and authority that they tried to sell musical chairs as the logical way to pick a team.
He is still the best spinner, and should be picked when in form. He is definitely carrying a finger injury and needs some work on his run up.
Anyway, congrats on a great career. Seems a bit of a prankster so will fit nicely into a cricket media team looking for a character.
As an Aussie, I can't help but feel more comfortable with our giys facing up to Monty rather than Swann.

If it is that bare, they might as well have their spin bowling coach turn his arm over. Or get someone from India or Pakistan quick citizenship. I heard Australia did something like this recently. Nothing wrong with that at all.

AG: I don't think Mushy would agree to getting fast-tracked on to this ship.

But as I said, you're forgetting one Hispanic Royal. A door to belated international recognition might be opening for Juan Carlos.

Jim Maxwell just reported that Monty was playing grade cricket yesterday and told people that he was going to play in Melbourne because GS was getting dropped.

Hmm wonder if he would have suddenly retired if the series was still alive, or England had held on to the Ashes.

Although this has not been a great series for Swann, this does surprise me a lot. He remains one of the best bowlers in the world and his departure is going to give England some headaches.

Re: Graeme Swann retires from international cricket with immediate effect
After all is said and done, his retirement actually has a negligible effect on England test team. This series is done. I looked up and turns out till Jul 2015, the only worthwhile tests England play are the 4-5 against India at home. And even in those, against such good players of spin, and Swann's current form, he would have been a non factor anyway. So his exit does not affect the future results of England team.
ODIs might be different, but I don't know if he has been a regular part of their ODI team.

Re: Graeme Swann retires from international cricket with immediate effect
Swann: "I think Monty's going to come in and do a great job in this game coming up this week. Whoever ends up taking the role full time I think they'll do a great job as well. Personally I hope little Scottie Borthwick gets a chance before long. He's a legspinner with a bit of x-factor and he can bat as well. Despite supporting Man City and Sunderland, two of the worst teams in England, he's a good guy."
Shout out for my boy Borthwick. That's cursed him.
