Trott has a relapse, takes further break from cricket

Things aren't looking good for his cricketing future. I hope he finds an answer to his current problems.

Re: Trott has a relapse, takes further break from cricket
Sounds like he didn't tell the whole truth in his Sky interview, anyway... perhaps trying to convince people he wasn't another Trescothick and give himself another shot at reviving his international career. Seems unlikely now if a couple of county games was too much for him.
The after-effects of English cricket's worst winter ever just keep resurfacing, hope he can get himself sorted out anyway even if we're perhaps unlikely to see him at Test level again.

Oh dear, well that's that then. There's next to no chance he'll play for England again now. As George Dobell mentioned, you wonder how much effect comments from complete twats like Vaughan played a part in the relapse. Vaughan should be ashamed of himself. Standby for yet another U-turn on Twitter.....

Re: Trott has a relapse, takes further break from cricket
Seriously, Vaughan's article in the Telegraph after Trott did the Sky interview was wildly speculative, ignorant, mean-spirited, and laced with conflict of interest, as Vaughan works for the Management Company that has Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Garry Ballance (rivals for Trott's place in the England team) on their books.
This combined with the fact that Trott has relapsed and there is clearly more to it than him just not having the stomach for a fight, as Vaughan quite firmly stated, means that if the Telegraph has any standards of high journalism they want to maintain, they should sack Vaughan immediately. The bloke is a wally with no connections left in the England team, who writes wildly speculative articles aimed at getting attention for himself, and talking up players who's selection for England means more money for him.

If I was Vawn I'd defend myself by saying if the "heat" of my article caused Trott to "melt" again then he never had a chance to get back to the top at International level and it was a good thing he got found out before it cost England a game

Yeah....and you were Vorgan there's a fair chance you'd be in thrall to your own ego enough, and convinced of a) your own rightness and b) the absolute need for the world to recognise it, enough to say so in public - and even enough of a sanctimonious little shit to trot out the 'TF he didn't cost England a game' line.
So be thankful you're not.

Vaughan is a moronic, attention-seeking tool. I hope he feels ashamed of the bile he spewed about Trott.

There was something not "right" about Trott's interview on Sky - either the ECB were lying about his condition or Trott was in denial - well, now we know the truth. As for Vaughan - words fail me.

See, this is what I'm saying. It's more harmful to keep the exact diagnosis a secret. Bluster-filled interviews do nothing for you. Hope he can recover well.
As for Vaughan - he's basically a gobshite who doesn't need to deal with any potential ramifications of his utter twattery. His verbal diarrhoea can't have helped Trott's recovery.
But then, as I say, Trott shouldn't have come out with that breezy interview. He should've kept his mouth shut, too.

The ECB didn't want him to do that interview - must have been his manager's idea. It was transparent (to me at any rate) that he was talking bullshine about his condition. The fact that Trott has decided for himself that he needs a further break from the game is actually a positive sign - at least he appears to be accepting that he has an illness. He just needs to stay out of the limelight while he recovers. A heart-to-heart with Tresco might be useful.

The interview was a big mistake and was asking for trouble one way or the other.
In terms of Vaughan, I've said it before, stop taking the coward's way out and spouting crap in the media, and actually get out there and give something back to the game. England's best captain in 30 years shouldn't be lowering himself to be the cricket equivalent of Robbie Savage.

Better than Nasser?

Well, they rank pretty close I guess. One built the team up from rock bottom, the other took them to the next level. I think Nasser took things as far as he could but Vaughan wouldn't have done what he did without those foundations.
Strauss I guess has to be a distant third, got the results but generally in spite of an over-cautious approach. The rest, well, mediocre or worse, every one of them.

Yeah, we weren't over-blessed with the quality of our captains after Brearley retired. I'd give Cook this Summer to see if he can move beyond captaincy-by-numbers. If not it will be time to move on.

I think the approach has been drilled into everyone by the Flower-Strauss setup. Coach the imagination and flair out of everyone. That's why I'd like to see a complete break with the past, if that means jettisoning all the remaining senior players and being thrashed by everyone for a couple of years it could still be worth it long term.
