Be interesting if someone could be arsed to put the stats together.
From memory SRT and Kallis would have been useful after 100. How many has Chanders played?

He's played over 150 now, surely has improved his average substantially since his 100th. That's some effort in consistently poor teams, though he's never really taken the responsibility of batting at 3 or even 4 has he?

Fark me. He's been playing tests for 20 years. After 100 he averaged 44. After 156 he's up to 52.

We can nit-pick about people like Chanderpaul not doing this and that, but what an exceptional player when the shit is flying. Imagine him the other day vs. India - doubt we'd have seen him out hooking. Doubt we'd have seen him out without him having played at least 150 balls.

At this rate he'll overtake DGB in another 350 Tests or so

Don't bet against it.

I wouldn't! He's a tenacious little nuggety crab, or crab nugget, or something.

Shive is one of the great Test batsmen of the last 40 years, I think.
It's not only those statistics (increasingly impressive as they have been).
Even if he is easily accused of being a slow, steady, too-solid accumulator (crab, if you like), that's not necessarily a vice, given the crumbly batting lineups he has tried mightily to shore up.
And he is not always a slow scorer. I think the characteristic crabbiness is mainly a tribute to his determination and resilience for the team. His longevity (and forbearance) are also admirable qualities in that context.
I wish he'd been born in Devon, not Demerara!

Talking about such a great man in Shiv Chanders makes this thread immeasurably better.
