No, not for that reason. After all, I even included a famously stodgy 19th century batsman (who for example carried his bat for 9* on one occasion).
Unless I'm under a false impression, "Barnacle" got his nickname as a result of a couple of up-against-the-wall Test innings - but otherwise was not especially noted for destroying his opponents' or the spectators' will to live at the crease. In fact, he was known to hit bouffant boundaries and the odd carefree six in a different context.
If we stuck any last-ditch hero into this team of teams, it'd be creaking at the seams. Jack Russell would probably be in there, for a start. Monty, Bunny, etc.
I meant to go for those batsmen for whom "digging in grimly" was deep in the blood, anchored in the DNA, almost whatever the format.
The bowlers obviously were the opposite kettle of fish.
But the list wasn't definitive. Just for a larf, like.
