Dello wrote:Henry wrote:The world is watching. It's the biggest stage in world cricket. And everyone is laughing at England.
The biggest laugh of it all is that this has been four years in the planning. Four years since the last world cup debacle and the best they can come up with is another debacle.
It really is quite something that the geniuses at the ECB can watch the entire world of cricket playing a better, more effective, more successful, more current brand of one-day cricket (a format in which England are terrible and have been since around 1992) and wilfully not learn a f*cking thing. In fact, rather than embracing some of the tactics and trends that other teams are using, England (and I repeat: terrible since 1992) delude themselves that it is they, rather, who are the pioneers of the game, who have the trump hand that will win the day in the end. "We're doing stuff no-one else is doing. That's winner talk."
No-one else is bowling 90% half trackers at the death, not because they're behind the times but because they're not f*cking idiots.
It's still essentially a meaningless month of warm-ups ahead of a lottery knockout competition that will decide the winner. Any one of the eight could get lucky with weather, tosses etc. and be in the final... then suddenly there's no problem, is there?
Alternatively we could lose to two minnows and be going home before the competition proper starts. That would focus attention on the issues and probably lead to a specialist one-day coach and selection panel. But we just don't have the quality or experience to produce a consistently good ODI side at the moment.

Re: World Cup 2015
Yeah, NRR damage limitation is the key here, as it will probably mean we could lose to Bangladesh and still sneak through (since the Bangers will no doubt lose to one of the other minnows and/or we could beat Sri Lanka...)
