I know that. You know that. But it will be put down to a DRS cock up.

JGK: The English team won the toss, but it was mostly downhill for them from there. Finch could have made a duck, but made 130-odd. Watto performed according to the hopes and expectations of his nation's fans, Mitch Marsh took a sloppy Michelle ... and Gus's toyboy Jimmy Taylor was cheated of a century by an ignorant subi. That's about it.

Umpire error denies Taylor maiden century
Martin Smith
England batsman stranded on 98 after Jimmy Anderson incorrectly given out against Australia
The ICC has conceded an umpiring error cost England's James Taylor a maiden one-day international century late in Australia's victory at the MCG on Saturday night. The right-hander finished the match stranded on 98 not out when No.11 Jimmy Anderson was adjudged run out to close England's innings on 231 in pursuit of Australia's 9-342. Match report: Australia punish England at the MCG Taylor, facing Josh Hazlewood on 98, was struck on the pad and set off for a leg bye as the ball trickled towards Glenn Maxwell at gully. Hazlewood and Australia's close fielders launched an appeal for leg before wicket and as umpire Aleem Dar raised his finger, Maxwell fired a throw at the stumps at the striker’s end, hitting the target. Taylor remonstrates at the end of the match // Getty Images Taylor reviewed the lbw decision and replays showed the ball to be sliding down the leg side. Square leg umpire Kumar Dharmasena then asked Third Umpire Billy Bowden to review the run-out chance. Anderson was found to be short of his ground and was given out to end the match. Taylor protested, and rightfully so, given the Playing Conditions for this 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup dictates a dead ball should have been called when Umpire Dar raised his finger. Article 3.6a of Appendix 6 of the Decision Review System (DRS) Playing Conditions states, in part, that: "If following a Player Review request, an original decision of ‘Out’ is changed to ‘Not Out’, then the ball is still deemed to have become dead when the original decision was made." Confusion reigned at the end of the match // Getty Images Given Dar raised his finger before Maxwell's throw broke the stumps, Anderson should have been given not out and Taylor would have again been on strike on 98 not out. The ICC released a brief statement after the match confirming Anderson had been incorrectly given out. "The PCT (Playing Control Team) spoke to the England team management and acknowledges that the game ended incorrectly and an error was made," the statement read.

So between three of the most experienced umpires in the world, not one of them considered the possibility that the ball was dead.

Shades of the end of the 2007 WC when the players had to explain the rules to the so-called elite six umps of the ICC panel.

Re: World Cup 2015
Incredible start to this World Cup, on the same day that Australia somehow beat England in a one day match, Billy Bowden is involved in a poor umpiring decision.
Truly a day of shocks.

Re: World Cup 2015
Our tactics are woeful. Yes, our batsmen were poor, but 343 is not going to happen. 250 is a push for this team. Slower ball bouncer after slower ball bouncer. This is a tactic that has been failing since I can remember. If Moores and/or his coaching team think it's a progressive tactic, they should not be in a job. All of our batsmen looked dodgy at various times, including Taylor who had a few fortunate reprieves, but none more-so than our new captain, who a lot of people suspected was finished before he was appointed captain. Taylor's overall form since his recall has been decent, though, he hasn't really changed anything from his method in domestic one-day cricket and he looks like he can play a nuggety role, be it at 3 or 6.

What do you expect? We are a prisoner of the squad we have selected. Right arm seam bowler replaces right arm seam bowler - it's not as if any of them are expressly quick. And no variety in the spin bowling department either. Christ! I'm beginning to wish for Fat Sam.

Re: World Cup 2015
Dar, Bowden and Jeff Crowe (three of today's five blind mice) were also on duty during the 2007 WC final which ended in utter farce as the umpires again didn't know the rules.

Yes, I made the point last evening, the 2007 WC ended in farce too. It seems when all the putative best umps get together they still can't understand any remotely tricky rules. Yet on both occasions the players knew the correct ruling.
Nobody could have begrudged Taylor a ton.
BTW the pommy posters here would probably be in accord with the observations of Gideon Haigh and Waleed Aly on the 'Offsiders'. Haigh described England's death bowling as zombie bowling, while Aly thought it was a bad plan executed well.

I can't believe Channel Nine aren't showing the India v Pakistan match. Not even on Gem.
I suspect even Aussie fans would be interested to see this great rivalry taking place in front of a full house on home soil.
