Silly argument. There are so many variables that its impossible to fairly compare players of different eras. I wonder how Smiths figures would look if he faced the same attacks that Bradman or even Ponting did.

Test cricket is probably the weakest it has ever been at the present time. However you can only compete against those of your generation and Smith has racked up the runs.

Sangakkara as a specialist batsman averaged well over 60 iirc. May be mistaken, but it was closer to 70.

I don’t think Test bowling is as weak as say 10 years ago. Maybe a lack of out-and-out pace, outside of Australia at least who Smith obviously doesn’t have to face.
He’s got a clear weakness in Bangladesh, averages less than 30 there... still, I’m sure Bradman would have found it tough there as well

Yeah, I’m not saying the Aussies are the only genuine pace bowlers, but there’s not too many around elsewhere. Steyn and Morkel are getting towards the end of the road, though Rabada is the obvious successor.
