If there was an afterlife of the christian variety, you can imagine Ferguson arguing with ref St Peter and giving linesangel Gabriel a gobful.

Whilst not condoning the actions of some idiots I've always queried the actual costs of these rescues. What do they include? They're a pretty useful training exercise for Which there would be a budget and the sailors are getting paid whether they're alongside painting the ship or patrolling somewhere.

Plus the government of the day gets free political mileage from it.

I worked with a guy who was ex-Navy from that period, & he said the inside word was the rescue cost in the 10s of millions. So i doubt Bullimore was ever billed for the rescue costs.JGK wrote:Did this guy ever pay back the Australian govt for rescuing him?

Four days, a couple of hundred sailors, some choppers and Maybe some Orions. Still 10mil Plus seems pretty steep.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVIII/The Death Thread 2018
Well again. They would probably have to do some training of that type anyway. And the things are useless tied up alongside. Not trying to be contrary, but no-one has ever adequately explained the cost of these rescues over and above the normal operating budgets. I am genuinely curious. I've got a friend who has some gibberish NATO (read American) title, but is ( was actually) responsible for the support involved in all overseas operations. i.e allocation of resources including the stray airliner. I think I'm gonna have to have a chat. My curiousity has finally been peaked sufficiently.
