And Wade and Maxwell have been axed. Paine now the preferred keeper in multiple formats.
Think Carey is pressing hard on his heels though.

Pretty funny that NoShow got the arse.
And good on Timmy Paine. His glovework in the Tests has been excellent and he's played some good innings.

Missed a couple of chances and contributed to Smiths drop off Chef. Batting has been ok but chucks his wicket away as he is not a great hooker or puller. Suspect the Saffies will work him out. Anderson aside, the Poms selected a pub side bowling attack.

Re: Australia v England, 5xODIs, 14-28 January, 2018
I think he's done well. This was a chance he would never have expected to receive and he has taken it well. His batting and keeping has been at least on a par with Nevill's and clearly better than Wade's; Carey is the future but this series would likely have been too soon for him.
Nitpicking aside, he has kept well. Dropped one difficult chance in Brisbane; and the catch that went between him and Smith in Melbourne was due to both of them having to stand up so close on a dead pitch. Never a chance to either of them really. There must be another chance that you're speaking of which I don't remember. His stumping was smart and he has pushed for a (successful) review that nobody else seemed to realise was a catch.
All in all, IMO a successful experiment, whether it's a stopgap measure while awaiting Carey's further development or something that might last a little longer remains to be seen.
Just very glad to be rid of the loathsome and useless Wade, really.

Weird that you clearly loathe Wade. I guess you know him.
I certainly will not arrange my life around watching the jamodis.

Paine’s a pretty decent keeper, but this Ashes has shown both why he’s rated highly and also why he hasn’t achieved what he probably should have. Seems to be the king of the pretty 30. Looks a million bucks- organised, classy, correct....then he gets out. Look at his first class career record and it seems to happen time and time again. One hundred in over 10 years of first class cricket tells a pretty emphatic story.
How long will Australia tolerate a keeper who averages 30 with the bat in this day and age when a keeper should be averaging 35 minimum?

For England, Jason Roy seems to be in one of his form slumps where he can hardly hit the ball or even know which end of the bat to hold. They may as well mark him ‘unselectable’ and send him home now.

He was last time I checked. Doubtless he's an A-grade shithead but there's one in every crowd.

My son used to play junior football with Wade. Had no problem telling the other kids how good he was. Trouble was, as a junior he WAS that good.
Re: Australia v England, 5xODIs, 14-28 January, 2018
According to those who play with and observe Maxwell, he's training the house down. Some people are disappointed with Smith's comments.
It's hard to overlook the fact that he doesn't like Maxwell. He underbowled him, preferring Head when they last played ODIs.
Maxwell, like other Victorians, Elliott, Jones and Hodge before him, seems to be judged more on character than performances.

Maxwell is a polarising cricketer.

If form was a criteria, then Cameron White would have been picked. He’s been as good as any Australian batsman in the shorter forms over the last 3-4 years in domestic cricket. Yet they likely cite his age as a barrier. That would be fine, but then they go and select Shaun Marsh for the 47563th time, and he’s a couple of months older than White.
Selectors, coaches, and captains around the world will never admit it, but there’s simply players they like more than others, and it has nothing to do with form or ability.
Victoria can also point to Ashton. agar being selected ahead of Jon Holland, despite the former having far inferior numbers in first class cricket (with the ball anyway).

You do have to wonder what the Bristol police are doing though, how many times do they have to watch that video before they decide? Worse than a marginal third umpire decision!

That must just about be Lynn's career over, without a serious shot ever fired. He's had more injuries than Shane Watson and Shaun Marsh put together and pelted with bricks ...

Good news.
Suck on that, NoShow. The twat has clearly pissed off Smith with his cavalier big-headed approach to his ODI game.
