who is in the alltime most infamous cricket skipper xi
Well? Criteria include being a crook while captain, rule breaking and incompetence.
Clearly there are some all rounders and the odd skipper who was a bowler, but most I can think of are batsmen.
Jardine, Twatto, Smith, Vaughan, DGB, any fraudulent Yarp skipper pre end if apartheid, Cronje, Faff, Azza, Gavaskar, fararjuna, Imran, Strauss,

Greg Chappell?
What did Strauss do in terms of cheating? Just dare to win an Ashes series in Australia?

Salman Butt?
Don't think What Jardine did fits any of your criteria but he certainly was infamous so fair enough. Like beamer, Strauss's infamy has passed me by.

That's Strauss as captain. Plenty of incompetence as an administrator.

Yeah, forgot about Butt as well.
Maybe the Strauss inclusion is down to Jellybeangate, not sure of any direct involvement though?

Oh, maybe it was that one time he claimed a catch that wasn't a catch but probably was a catch. In that case Steve Waugh can be in there as well.

KP put a few noses out of joint in his couple of matches in charge... and controversy was rarely far away from Mike Gatting (who also only won two Tests in a couple of years as captain, albeit two pretty significant ones!)
Inzy for forfeit-gate (though seemingly harshly treated by Darrell Hair). Pollock scores on the “incompetence” count for his Duckworth-Lewis interpretation...

Oh yeah, Gatting is a good one. Of England captains, his inclusion would be far more deserving than Strauss and Vaughan

He cheated us out of about 18 months more of Kevin Pietersen playing for England. We got Gary Ballance instead.
For that, Strauss should never be forgiven.

Guess there was the time-wasting 12th man incident in 2009, and Vaughan probably got on the list for the Pratt episode...

Could be, but hardly all time top XI levels of infamy is it? Horrie, you need a rethink. What about those captains of rebel South Africa tours for a start (beams has already nominated Gatting).

That's not TECHNICALLY foul play, though, is it?
If "infamous" stretches to encompass any skippers who have pissed us off by bad decisions, poor handling of spiky characters, or sheer bloody general incompetence, who would 'scape whipping?
I mean, I'd start nominating everyone who's not a Lanky.

All those who toured Yarpville in the sporting sanctions period are infamous in their own right.
Yep toss out Strauss and rope in Butt.
DGB is an interesting case. His dubious practices in business, sectarianism and the latter years of his administration have him up there.

I’d nominate Ian Chappell, for starting us down the nasty road that has led us here today.
Also for just generally being a qunt.

Ranatunga comes to mind. Cronje would have to get a look in, as would Azharrudin.
