To paraphrase Marx, "religion is the opiate of the masses".
He got that right.

Nup. Old Karl was not short of a well rounded opinion of himself but he would be appalled by parades of folk visiting his grave.

I don't know. A thinker deserves respect and a little bit of homage. Not his fault the revolution kicked off in the last place expected.
Not an advocate of pitchforks generally but a little bit justified in that case.

Hopefully to be overshadowed by Star Wars day or international cookie dough day. I imagine Rupert will holy a huge gala dinner if his fifth cookie hasn't give him a heart attack

"It's a communist plot, I tell you ..."
I think he would have been more appalled by the giant lumpen Marxist-Leninist [code for "Stalinist"] monumentally hagiographic head, even than the entrance fee charged.
He might actually have chuckled at the thought of silly buggers paying homage to his bonce. He had a mordant sense of humour, to judge by his writings public and private.
Compare that with, say:

The Model T man (any colour, as long as it's black). "... more or less bunk", to be more exact.
General W.T. Sherman, on War, is more interesting reading.
Very different messages at different times, in different roles - while driving old Dixie down in the war, or out to massacre Injuns, he had the scent of blood in his nostrils.
But afterwards, rueful variations on "War is Hell". From one who knew.

Yes, I know that's wandering off Marx. But this is The Bails.

Wander away. I'm sitting in a pub so another civil want quote deems appropriate.
Send all my generals a case of whatever he's drinking.
Lincoln on Grant who more or less burnt those parts of Dixie Sherman couldn't get to

Nah, as with any politician you have to balance the good with the bad. Her actions in curbing Union power had to be done. Britain was a total mess in the 70's under Labour. I would also argue that she was justified over the Falklands.
FWIW I hated the Nats as much as I now hate the ANC. Both totally corrupt organizations.
