Monty’s a better batsman than Moeen now. That applies whether it’s Panesar, Python, Don, or the fat Scottish golfer.
El Alamein?
1990s levels here.

Dismissal of the match - Moeen in the first innings, or Rampaging Roy in the second?

Maybe the Brummie Botham can still turn it around...

He pretty much came in there, wherever they wanted to bring him in.
Putting the top 8 to shame so far.

Lyon the first non-chucking off-spinner to make 350 Test wickets.

has there ever been a weaker England test batting lineup? Even in the 90s we had the grit of Atherton,Hussain, and Thorpe.

I can only think of perhaps some of those at the back end of 1989 after they announced the second rebel Yarpia tour, and the selectors were reduced to picking names out of a hat.Henry wrote:has there ever been a weaker England test batting lineup? May have ended his career as well as Moeen’s had it been an inch lower...PeterCS wrote:Jo-el got one right!!!

This really is an extraordinary turnaround.
At 8-122, or whatever, on day 1, the odds of Australia winning by 250 runs must have been a million to 1.
THis is up there with Headingley 1981, more bizarre than Adelaide 2006.

Most of those were mid-90s, actually...lardbucket wrote:beamer wrote:I can only think of perhaps some of those at the back end of 1989 after they announced the second rebel Yarpia tour, and the selectors were reduced to picking names out of a hat.Henry wrote:has there ever been a weaker England test batting lineup? Lathwell was the one of those who didn’t tick the “county journeyman” box. He was seen as a supremely talented youngster and rushed into the side, but couldn’t handle the top level mentally and his career never recovered. He was out of the game well before the age of 30, by which time his erstwhile Somerset opening partner had found rather more success in international cricket.
