Hmm, they appear to be a pack of Mike Hunts.

You'd have thunk young Thaddeus M. Findlay would have felt honored to be named after the head honcho of CONTROL
And for those not familiar with the Enzedders, Michael Owens did not play for Liverpool and Michael Shrimpton never produced the 'Countdown' TV show.

Re: Taking the Mickey
I think the Marks might have the Mickeys covered.
A team of (pythonesque) Bruces would also, IMHO, likely take the Mickeys, even if handicapped by the Notoriously Talentless and Brainless Dubber Millstone.
Teams of Matthews, Lukes, and Johns should surely follow a Peter’s offering of Marks.

Re: Taking the Mickey
We did this exercise in one of the last worthwhile threads before C4 turned up its toes. The name that we found fought furthest above its weight division in this event was Graham/Graeme.
Wood
Gooch
Pollock
Smith (to annoy Red by including AND taips by throwing down the order)
Thorpe
Hick
Manou (wk)
Swann
Dilley
McKenzie
Corling
(with Yallop, Thomas, Chevalier and various others to pad out the tourning party - and I'm sure we came up with a better first-change after Picca and Garth than Corling!)

Hasn’t only one Luke ever played Test cricket, bizarrely?lardbucket wrote:I think the Marks might have the Mickeys covered.

The John teams would probably be pretty solid through the eras, as it’s only in recent years it’s declined in popularity. Matts would be half decent as well, not sure if there will be 11 from one country though?

Re: Taking the Mickey
Only 3 Matthews for England (Maynard, Hoggard and Prior). 28 Johns, though Crawley Sr (unrelated) was the most recent (excluding 4 Jonathans, which although it shortens to Jon(ny) is apparently an etymologically unrelated name).

Luke Ooper was Qld wicketkeeper back in the 60s. Wally Grout's understudy.
... and who could forget Look Right, Luke Wright, famous limited overs slogger.
- Spoiler:
- Actually it was Lew Cooper but it sounds correct

Re: Taking the Mickey
Alan, Alan, Alan ... a squad of Alans
Alan Turner
Alan Jones
Alan Butcher
Alan Kippax
Allan Border
Allan Watkins
Alan Wells
Allan Lamb
Alan Knott
Alan Smith
Alan Davidson
Alan Donald
Alan Oakman
Alan Meville
Alan Thomson
Alan Wharton
Alan Moss
Alan Fairfax
Alan Hurst
Alan Ward
Alan Igglesden
Manager: Alan Smith
Driver: Alain Prost
Financier: Allen Stanford
This squad provides decent batting, keeping, and pace options. Not much in the spin department, but perhaps Stanford has hidden on-field spin talent. Border, Lamb, Kippax, Knott, Donald, and Davidson provide the nucleus of a solid side. How would they fare v the Steves?
