500 just before lunch on Day 3 it is, then!

Alloysimian wrote:In my eyes, absolute lunacy to declare. The pitch is a pancake. I can't rightfully criticise, because "that's the way they play" but were it not for four or five injudicious shots we'd probably be in the position to get our foot on the throat, albeit at a markedly lesser scoring rate. So, OK fine, that's how we're going to do it. But to turn down the opportunity to throw the bat in the first innings against a flagging attack, for the sake of four uneventful overs defies belief. Especially when they omit their prize opening bowler from opening the bowling. It has to be some form of psychological warfare that I'm too dense to be able to fathom. Good luck to them and I hope they succeed, but to me it was akin to pissing on a plug socket. It was like: "Hi, I'm Ben Stokes, welcome to Jackass". Stokes' unbelievable waft outside of off was a microcosm of what occurred at the end of the day. "hahaha I'm going to stick my dick in a tiger's mouth, waggle it around and see how long it takes for it to bite it off". I was more agog at that than seeing that long haired twat Burns get gated first ball in the last series. Like watching a family member continuously self harm. It's like some meme. I'm waiting for the day when they turn up and Stokes informs the media that for the impending Test match all the batsmen and bowlers are going to perform their duties on their weaker hand... because why not.
Yes but hey, that's a lot to digest in one paragraph.
I did that on here once, and it nearly killed me.
Stoker didn't literally piss on anything and stick his todger in the mains. That's Big Al's job.
Anyway, for a' that, 'tis but a game, and no lives lost.
Yet.

Looks like one unhealthy legacy of Bazball might be flat pitches becoming the staple offering.

Only the Grub and Blowie. The others (Ooze, Shrapo, Smudge, Snot and Mariah) will methodically work and time the bad balls away. On this deck 4 an over should be relatively straightforward (touch Woodie).

Oz were saved by lyon yesterday, 29 overs on the 1st day, and wickets fell regularly. so despite the whacking, Oz quicks are still pretty fresh and perhaps can put their feet up for a few days. can ali or root do a similar job for england?
i would have preferred 300-4 over 393-8 dec anyday, can only hope it wont be so sunny today and conditions are better for bowling, so hopefully theres method in stokes madness. but in previous bazball tests england have always chosen some poor sod to bang in the short stuff, in this one theyve only got the oldies and stokes himself.

Unexpected rain this morning slightly delayed the start, and Stokes would surely have stuck them in first thing as a result even if we’d batted out yesterday.
Runs certainly not flowing, but no breakthrough…

Warner lives up to his recent English average by falling to Broad for 9

These are perfect conditions for Australia's former and still co-captain.

England getting much more movement than Aus did.
Yet another dreadful shot from Warner, then Marnus was foxed into thinking an inswinger was coming and wass forced to play a widish outswinger.
England's hour easily.

Funky. Stokes brings on his 7th bowler.
What next? Give Root and gloves and pads, and see what action Bairstow has?
I am not carping. Interesting shuffles.

It was amazing he almost reached double figures. Sadly out in the nervous nines.

England could use a LBG here. Much as I love Mo as a bloke.

Very ordinary 1st full batting session in the series for Aus.
Not to undersell the England bowlers but there was absolutely no effort to put them off their length and line.
Warner started the rot with an awful shot, then Marnus played at one he didn't need to. Then Smith (after hitting many half volleys straight to the field) missed a straight one from Stokes.
All very poor. England way on top.

I'm ancient enough to have seen it all before though.
Healy, Gilly or even bloody Bradley Haddin going in at about 5-115, and Oz winning by 10 wickets.
Then there was that series in the Valley of the Kings, when Ra came on with the Poms seemingly way on top, and reducing them to debris with his dibbly-dobbly "pyramid" mystery deliveries.

TBF the Ball tracking on the Smith one was very questionable imo.

A lot to ask of him when he hasn’t played a red ball game for a couple of years. Maybe playing Wood and using part-time spinners would have been a better option.PeterCS wrote:England could use a LBG here. Much as I love Mo as a bloke.

Fifty apiece, about 25% of what we need from these two

Ahmed,, Parkinson or (I suppose you mean) Rashid?
I was not saying it was going to happen. None of the above has much or any recent red ball experience.
Just, it's a shortage, a gap. When the pitch isn't resposive, ... the variations, guile, greater bounce. When little bounce given.
But as ever, what do I know. Mo may be da man.

Listening to radio and trying to duotask, so can't answer that one, not watching.
But one thing Root does is sling the ball quite high, leggie style, from a high arm. That has its obvious drawbacks, and obvious assets.
Can't depend on him as a *frontline* bowler, though. A decent bsckup/chageup/partnership-threatening option.
