Looks a good call.

After years of being absolute shite in my predictions, and now having hit one right finally, it’s with an Everest high sense of relief that I sink back into my natural stage of being shite.

Although I’m a little resentful that getting it right has deprived me the opportunity of Karthiking it to say that basically I was right.

now that we won the WTC (and that we have a soft fixture), IDGAF about that.

Seeing as the Bus, as often as not in the latter days of Warner, is batting before the innings is ten minutes old, the adjustment for him to officially open would be minimal.
Smith seems to have the Chappell G/Border/Clarke aversion to batting at #3. Unfortunately, because that would most easily make room for Snot to move up the order to a spot with the responsibility his career needs.

Steve Waugh was the one with the biggest aversion IMHO. ChappellG did bat there for a few seasons after Border had struggled.

Series right back on now, can we make it Desmond at Old Trafford and take it to an Oval decider?

And Brook making runs showed the folly of promoting him to #3 where according to the critics, he doesn't make runs.

Exactly why SRW (or the selectors) preferred 5 or 6. He put his hand up to take on the responsibility of 3 v WI in the early 90s. He made 100 on the Lara wicket (287) at the SCG but struggled in the other Tests, and made way at 3 for Justin Langer, moving down to 5 for the 2 run loss in Adelaide (and stayed there for the rest of his career). I guess he (or the selectors) felt more comfortable with him lower in the order.

I think your best player should be at 4 really, 5’s just about OK, but 6 and below you’re likely to be wasted having to bat with the tail too often (can’t remember too many great specialists who favoured #6, Shiv perhaps?)

Root’s still our clear number one as it stands, but I think Brook could be our gun player for the next decade and we want him in the engine room as with KP in years gone by. Top 3 should be a specialist role though it’s changed quite a bit nowadays, especially when you’re after a positive start.

Sobers and Border for starters, and Steve Waugh.

Batting with the tail is an art in itself, which the likes of SRW, Mike Hussey, Asif Iqbal and lately Ben Stokes absolutely mastered.

Yup, AB batted at 6 his whole career.
