The end of the JAMODI? Empty The end of the JAMODI?

We all know how the global franchise circus is taking over the cricket calendar… and it did occur to me a while ago that although it is squeezing the Test game, the thing it’s displaced the most is the original existential threat to Test cricket, the JAMODI and SODIT.

Now the MCC’s world cricket committee is proposing bilateral ODI series be restricted to the year leading up to a World Cup, rather like we tend to see with T20I’s. So it seems the longer game will continue to be the focus in terms of international cricket, along with global white-ball tournaments. Whether both 50-over and 20-over international formats survive longer term remains to be seen, that’s been a question asked for pushing 20 years now.

Given the franchise game’s not going away it seems like a sensible proposal. Now we just need to get countries outside the big three playing more Tests (for example, we’re not scheduled to meet SA again until the back end of 2026, something’s not right there…)
