Crawley's tale Empty Crawley's tale

I'm not sure if this did the rounds, including on here:so here goes.

It appears the England opener recently had a tale he insisted on regaling his teammates with.

Authentically Chinese? - maybe open to doubt. The wording is clumsy - it doesn't have anything like the usual "ancient" Chinese eloquent turn of phrase. At least in this version, reported by the Daily Mail. (Maybe Dacre's organ mangled this wording too?)

For all that, I like philosophy in sport, so here it is.

I suppose the moral of the story can only be: You can never control everything, or even know which way it all will go, from one day or hour to the next. But/so make the best of what you can, and otherwise hope for good results, with a sanguine temperament - a bit like Kipling's suggested way of treating "those two impostors"?

Or maybe I've taken up all wrong what Crawley was trying to get at.

Never mind. Philosophy in sport. Can't beat it.

Well, you can, but that's a different tale. ......
