Dawson century and 10 wkts vs Lancashire at OT as hants win by an innings, but elswhere some massive scores on the 1st 2 days, 2x600 and 2x500+

After producing a trad road at bristol groundsman had a brainwave and made a pitch so dangerous umpires called a halt on the 1st day which must be a record apart from that infamous test at kingston which only lasted a few overs.

I just saw the scorecard from that abandoned Gloucestershire v Northants game. All out 125 on day 1 and a retired hurt in Northants top 6 ... pitch must have been spicy.

yep broken hand and then another got hit badly, wild paceman Singh Dale [who has played more FC matches than a few in the england squad] was the culprit in both. Gloucs were shot out by safy all rounder Broad [who actually plays for Germany] but Northants havnt had a win all season.

It was a pitch that was a mix of natural and artificial grass, apparently OKed by the ECB, but now subject to umpires report [1 was ladyump sue redfern]. Hope they get it right for when we play Oz there on 29th, although it will prob be rained off.

Trevor Bailey, Keith Fletcher, Ray East, your boys took a beating. They took one hell of a beating.   Very Happy

deservedly so after worcs have lost quite a few players to richer clubs.

A number of england spinners getting big hauls in the sun on wearing wkts, notably Carson of Sussex whos way more experienced than Bash, nearly scored his maiden 100, then took 11-157 to put Sussex in line for promotion. But nothing matters in the CC, although he has figured in Lions squads. Leach took 12-174 at taunton, and Ahmed Jnr took 10-217 at TB, and even poor Bess took 7 on a road at leeds. Hartley by contrast took 1 wkt and made 12 runs in the same match as Dawson. He hasnt had much FC cricket this season.

I think Leach is a good bet for the tour to Pakistan, now that he seems to be fit and firing.

He was ambivalent about touring India on the basis that he probably wouldn't get much cricket and would miss out on some lucrative franchise gigs. That's the world professional cricketers inhabit these days.

If that’s genuinely the way he feels, he doesn’t deserve selection.

Vaughan jnr outbowling Leach at Taunton with 6-102 [i thinks its only his 2nd CC match] despite being hit for several huge 6s by supersam. But Somerset are in trouble thanks to Deshi MP Shakib. Quite a cosmopolitan bowling attack for Surrey; Worral oz, Roach WI, Curran RSA, Shakib Bdesh & leggie Cameron Steel [California] who hasnt had a bowl yet.

Essex deducted 12 points due to one of their batters using an oversized bat. FFS, that is way out of proportion. Fine the player by all means, but a points penalty is too draconian for words.

Cam Steel is a wozzie ( as well as a seppo and whatever nationality he is using to play CC) ....plays for Claremont Nedlands

Same old Chavs, always cheating…

Sounds like something from 19th century cricket though!

Well played Somerset, beating Surrey to lee the championship title race alive.

Surrey faced 78 overs but declined to chase down a score of 221. It looks like they got their tactics horribly wrong.

Pears are 9 points from safety.

Yes and Sibley only batted for 61 of them Wink I think they were 95-3 and then he, foakes and shakib were out in quick succession. they certainly know how to make turners at Taunton, Leach took 9 in the match and Vaughan jnr 11-140.

Elsewhere Potts took 9-68 as Durham beat lancs by an innings. Daft england dropped him for the oval.

Somewhat bizarre to see Burns and Sibley, a pedestrian Test opening pair from the bad old days, sharing a lively fourth-wicket partnership for Surrey on T20 finals day!

And it’s Gloucs who party like it’s 1999. With their legendary captain of a quarter of a century ago Mark Alleyne as coach, they see off local rivals and defending champions Somerset to win a first T20 title, with Cameron Bancroft not needing any sandpaper to anchor a comfortable chase.

And the mighty Pears stay up. Brilliant stuff!!

50-over cup final reduced to 20 on the reserve day to try and get a result. Even having it at the notably rain-proof Trent Bridge wasn’t enough to spare it from the late September monsoon! Maybe Notts’ deal with the weather gods only applies to international matches.

If no result is possible (and think 20 overs per side has to be completed) the trophy will be shared (not sure why they can’t find an indoor net for a bowl-out?)
