Monty Burns not offered a contract by Qld after a poor season last year. A real "nearly man". Some outstanding performances for State and Country without ever really locking a national spot, mainly due to his propensity for trying to glide balls through Third Man across the line. A genuine "c Slipper b Bowler" candidate, that cost him in the end. Play straight, man, but it's all a bit late.

And Matt Kuhnmann has moved to Tas in an effort for more Shield time.

He didn't have a poor season. 446 runs @ 37.17 was a decent effort in bowler friendly conditions. It was more a case of looking to the future. He will be 35yo next season & selectors would rather pick younger batsmen.

He finished his Shield career with 7361 runs @ 39.58. I agree that he had limitations as an opening batsman & often wonder why he didn't bat in the middle order where he began both his Shield & Test careers.

I feel his fielding let him down a bit at Test level too.

And he badly needed a hair cut.

I also note Marcus Harris is sitting on 174* for Leics, but it is only against Direby.  Not much else seems to have occurred in CC on day 1 of this round, though the scores are noticeably lower on average ... have they referred to Dukes balls?
