Graham Thorpe R.I.P.
Just announced. That is some shock. He was only 55. He was taken seriously ill last year and seemed to have disappeared from view.
He was some player. Probably the rock of England's batting for the best part of a decade.

It is a sadly premature death. Thorpe was a great player to watch.

Re: Graham Thorpe R.I.P.
RIP Thorpey, one of English cricket’s understated greats in what was a tough era. There was nobody else you’d prefer to have in the middle at 100-5, which was a regular occurrence for us in the 90s.
The absolute silence for two years after he was taken ill was never a good sign, various rumours but his family are entitled to privacy if that’s what they want.

Sadly along the lines of what I suspected/had seen rumours of.

Re: Graham Thorpe R.I.P.
Sad news. The reports that he made it to hospital and died there put me off that conclusion. It doesn’t bear thinking about really; his poor wife and family.

Aw shit, that is awful.
While I did endure a bout of depression myself some years ago, I can't quite fathom the grip that this disease can have on people.
I think I've mentioned before that my middle brother has the same debilitating problem. He knows his life should be great (retired, plenty of money, great partner, new grandkids etc) but he says he just worries about anything and everything, to the point that he'd rather just stay in bed all day. His shrink is now trying him on hallucinogens (mushies).

Jesus, Thorpey topped himself by jumping in front of a speeding train. Very, very sad. The poor family.

He died at Esher station, quite close to where we live. Tragic.

In the midst of all the grief for Thorpe and heartfelt sympathy for his family, spare a thought for the train driver.
