Re: Stephen Fleming
{From the Test thread}
Ended up with an average over 40 which means that the only players to have scored more than 5503 Test runs at an average less than 40 are Poms.

Scored 50s in his last 2 innings. But would still end up in losing team in his last 2 tests.

Re: Stephen Fleming
From cricinfo,
Stephen Fleming holds the New Zealand records for
1) most Test caps (111; Richard Hadlee is next with 86),
2) most runs (7047 before the third Test at Napier; Martin Crowe is next with 5444),
3) most half-centuries (44; Nathan Astle is next with 24),
4) most catches (171, exactly 100 ahead of the next man, Martin Crowe), and
5) most Tests as captain (80; John Reid next with 34).
Just about the only major New Zealand batting record Fleming doesn't hold is the one for most Test centuries - he made 9, and stands behind Martin Crowe (17), John Wright (12) and Nathan Astle (11).

Not a bad effort for someone who slipped to the likes of Tuffey, Wiseman and Vettori

Were my eyes deceiving me or was Flemings 50 to a 100 conversion rate 9 from 54?
Jeez, to think of all the stick Ian Bell gets yet this guy's a hero. If I was Sherm I'd be going through the family tree with a fine tooth comb looking for a NZ connection.

If you take out minnows it is far worse.

The only player with a worse conversation rate and at least he had the excuse of being a F.. C... who needed a rest after scoring 60

Re: Stephen Fleming
His conversion rate of converting tons in double tons was quite good though. Out of those 9 tons, 3 were double tons (274*, 262, and 202) and 1 was near double ton (192) which means he was capable of concentrating for long periods of time though wasn't consistent enough. Were my eyes deceiving me or was Flemings 50 to a 100 conversion rate 9 from 54?

Or that he cashed in on the very few occasions conditions were absolutely in his favour.

Re: Stephen Fleming
Fleming talking about getting his average in '40s and his low no. of test tons,
I am satisfied with 40 on the chest. It sets you apart, in terms of New Zealand batters anyway, but as a batsman I'll always feel I underachieved because I couldn't convert my starts, and I'll never know why. Sometimes I was the master of my own failings, other times it just wasn't meant to be.
"Even if I'd converted a quarter or a half [of my fifties] I'm up into the 20-25 centuries category which, as we know, is pretty good going," he said. "I'll always rue that fact and wonder why, but I guess there are bigger things out there so it won't last too long. When I take time to reflect, I'll be satisfied to have 4 in front of my average, but it would have been nice to chalk up ten hundreds, and have a crack at saving this game."

Re poor conversion rates - of batsmen averaging over 37.50 in Tests and who have scored a ton, the three with the worst conversion rates are all Kiwis - Coney, Richo and Flem.

Re: Stephen Fleming
Not quite fair - he may well have ended up with the highest score for NZ as well had he not declared when he was on 274, about 20 short of the record if my memory serves me correctly.tac wrote:SG wrote:His conversion rate of converting tons in double tons was quite good though.
