Scott Newman
I'm not really sure why Newman hasn't been looked at more closely for England selection, especially since Trescothick made himself unavailable (Which is now permanent). Unlike Cook and Strauss, he is an opener who will play his shots from the start and can get the team of to a positive start. Talk of his fielding being iffy should be considered irrelevant, imo. Cook was a pretty poor fielder when he started, and he's now turned himself into a reliable catcher in the gully area. No reason why Newman can't do the same, and he's apparently improved his fielding in the last 2-3 years.

Can't field for shit!
Always thought he was talented and plays very positively in the 4 day game. You would think he'd make a pretty good one day player but he's gash at it.

Re: Scott Newman
Come on. David Sales would still gladly devour him for lunch, pads and all.
FTB? Meh. Most Surrey players get accused of that. At least he's aggressive, talented, and has a first class average of almost 43. At 28, he's hardly a wet behind the ears rookie, either. Give him a go, I say.

FTB i'm not so sure. He is talented, just not sure he's quite got what it takes between the ears.

Re: Scott Newman
I say give Sales a go. He was 2nd to only Ramps last year, had an unbelievable List A record especially in such a shit team and T20s weren't so shabby either.

Uhhh, have you ever - just for a minute - considered that David John Grimwood Sales may be better at fellatio than Shah. I mean, I've seen him eat a foot-long hot dog and I must tell you, it's pretty sexual and a quick affair to say the least.

Ok, sure. I'll agree with you this time. Who does he replace, though? And don't say Bell, because like it or not, he is a long term investment for England, and he's not going to be dropped anytime soon.

Well, the only ones I'd replace him with are the ones who've just got tons. Yes Bell, and Strauss. He bats anywhere for Northants but in essence is a middle order player, so he wouldn't replace Cook or Vaughan. Obviously I'd never replace KP and Colly brings too much to the all-round game to replace. So, in effect, no-one in the real world. Just know I'd choose him over Scott 'No runs last year' Newman.

Mark Ealham? Bit young. Give him another couple of years and he should be ready.

If we ever picked the Blobster again i'd probably make him captain!!!
In all probably he lacks the class for test cricket but I rate him as a top bloke and a gritty character too...
