Greatest victories for your team in your lifetime
For an Indian, I guess it'll be simple enough. Nothing beats Kolkata '01.

As an English fan who wasn't born in 1981, it would have to be Edgbaston 2005.

I don't think there's ever been a series as good or as exciting as the Ashes 2005, certainly not in my experience. Edgbaston would probably be the greatest in that series. Unbelievable Test.

Edgbaston 2005 without doubt.
Headingley 1998 v SA by 26 runs to take the series 2-1
Brisbane & Melbourne 1986/7 to win the Ashes in Aus.
Sabina Park 1990 v WI, 1st test win against the WI for 16 years
Oh, and I suppose 1981 Leeds although I was only 8 and remember all the hoohah, wasn't a great cricket fan then. Also the 1982/3 Melbourne test win by 2/3 runs?

Lords 2000 was pretty sweet, as was Karachi in the dark later that year.

Hoggard's heroics in Johannesburg, 2005, for me. We were robbed of one of the greatest ever English victories at Durban in that series too, in my opinion.

Test
Sabina 1999(Lara 213)
Kensington 1999(Lara 153*)
ARG 2003(We chased down 418)
ODI
Champions trophy 2004
I am too young to remember the glory days of the West Indies.

Re: Greatest victories for your team in your lifetime
I've enjoyed most of the ones said, a couple in retrograde however.
One that hasn't been mentioned was Edgy '97. The usual shitstorm preceeding the Ashes had happened, I thought we had a chance. Bobby was excellent 1st up, Caddick wrapped up the others for a michelle, cracking double by Nass, quality partnership with Thorpe, trademark graft from Aussie 2nd time around. Thought we could win the series. Puh.

From recent times Kolkatta and Chennai 01 agaisnt the Aussies. The T 20 WC finals against Pakistan was also an absolute nail biter.

Perth 08, which was all the more satisfying for the whole emotional roller-coaster that led up to it. Kolkata 01 was magic no doubt, but the TV and internet media hype before Perth 08 made it the most satisfying Indian test win I can remember.

Why is the Indian list of worse defeats far longer than the list of great victories?
