Teaser
A person makes the statement; "two days ago I was 31 & next year I'll be 34"
See if you can explain, but limit thinking time to 30 seconds. There are no leap years involved.

I gave it 300 seconds and still have no idea. It has nothing to do with age?

Easy. They say it on January 1st. With a birthday on December 31st. Turning 33 this year and 34 next year.

The 31 was random, it could have been "two days ago I was 11 & next year I'll 14".

Re: Teaser
Can someone explain how pearlj is right? I thought of the exact same example when I saw the question but dismissed it straight away because surely he'd be 33 next year in the scenario pearlj is describing...

Oh, right. Duh. I thought by "I was 31 two days ago" they meant they had turned 31 two days ago. Time for bed soon, methinks.

To be fair when someone asks a "teaser" you expect the answer to have a twist and not be the obvious. Then again, chips do have trouble with the strangest things.
