Ian Bell > David Sales.
Anyway, there's all extra logistical costs when Sales is in the mix. Extra team bus, extra plane, extra food bills. It all adds up. You've got to mind the pennys.

All joking aside, Sales must have seriously pissed off some high ranking bod at the ECB

Re: 1st test v SA squad announcement
Darren Pattinson, whilst a surprise name, has been one of the best bowlers in England this year in nearly every form of the game. I wouldn't say he's not good enough, simply too Australian. I personally wouldn't pick a guy on the basis of 7 FC-matches and 6 one-dayers, but most of the bowlers are crap and he won't make the 15, so you might as well.

It reeks of ridiculousness. How on earth a guy with that much talent and stacks of stats to back it up doesn't make it into the 30 man squad, when its obvious we are so farking shoite at that style of the game is beyond me.
And yet we pick the same old farking names that have failed to do anything in that form of the game! And not just failed, but failed miserably for years as well.

I know they've got different disciplines but I would be surprised if Sales boffed a little at the inclusion of an Aussie in our squad.

Re: 1st test v SA squad announcement
What gets me is that Ali Cook played one OD match this year, scored 8.
What gets me is that Pattinson is an Aussie, but also however well he's done, it's only 7 early season matches - not proven.
What gets me is that James Tredwell has been scoring his runs at 16 and taking his wickets at 74.
What gets me is that Monty P has only played 4 matches this season and taken only 3 wickets.
What gets me is that Liam Plunkett has played one match, one match and hardly covered himself in glory.
What gets me is that Ed Joyce is not only averaging mid-20s this season, he's striking slowly.
What gets me is Majid Sahmood has 2 wickets @ 77 all season.
What gets me is that 'all is OK' with Ian Bell.
The main thing that gets me is that all of the above gets you into the 30 'best' players in the land.
Quite frankly a f*cking sham.
At least they picked the likes of Samit Patel, Simon Jones, Tim Bresnan - otherwise, wholly underwhelming, unexciting and unimaginative.

Re: 1st test v SA squad announcement
Pretty much. I picked out the three I'm pleased with because they're actually performing. I didn't pick the ones I've slated for any particular reason, I'm sure a lot more of the others have f*ckarse wanky stats this season. I just couldn't be bothered to carry on.
But as for those 8 I've picked out - f*ck that bag of shit.

I expected some gashness in there, but I also expected the abysmal OD form we have been in for there to have been more than a couple of new faces out of 30 farking spots.
Well, the selectors and that Moores thunderqunt have dropped to new depths for me!!

Welcome Clamson!
I'm trying to be extra nice to new people because, according to some, we're scaring them off.
Why not pop over to the intro section and tell us if you're an England fan, which county you support etc etc....

Re: 1st test v SA squad announcement
How do the players who feel that they are doing really well and are doing really well and dreaming of playing for England feel now?
Could they have any more of a demoralising insult than knowing how far the selectors think they are even from England's 2nd XI?

I've e-mailed Miller. I've told him that he's just another yes man like Davey Gravy. I expect to see the squad changed tomorrow.

Don't know his address for sure, but going on the others I've e-mailed(Gravy, Morgan) it's geoff.miller@ecb.co.uk - always works for me.

From both, yeah. I e-mailed Morgan about getting a North v South match sorted - he gave me a load of gash about gash.
I e-mailed Gravy after Panesar didn't make the Pakistan squad and Udal did. He was polite in his reply, not very knowledgable about much - well, certainly not about Monty at the time.
I've sent him more abusive ones than that one and he hasn't replied to them.
This one's middling. I'm expecting a reply off of such a down-to-earth

Re: 1st test v SA squad announcement
'Thank you for your feedback Danny. Yes, I agree that England's prospects for the coming series are positive and that English Test and County cricket is going from strength to strength under the current administration. Our inspirational captain, Michael Vaughan, has just signed a contract to lead the squad for another 2-3 years. With his able lieutenants, Ian Bell and Paul Collingwood, and the exciting Kevin Pietersen, England looks set to compete strongly against any opposition. With experienced players of Bell and Collingwood's calibre, and with the exciting Ali Cook shadowing Vaughan's captaincy and Monty Panesar learning his craft, we can feel confident that the loss of such stalwarts as Marcus Trescothick and Ashley Giles has been covered'.
