Re: The 2008 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale
Fark it - Norman bogeys the 10th (his 5th in 10 holes).
Now 4 players within a shot.

And he bogeys the 12th as well.
Poulter and Harrington now share the lead and I'm going to bed.

Norman playing like a first year pro. Taking driver off the tee on the final 9 of a major. That tactic has cost him a couple of majors and looks like doing so again.

Poulter in the clubhouse at +7
I don't like his face. Dilemma - do I want the Englishman to win, go for good old Padraig, or hope Norman somehow drags his way back from nowhere?

Good on ya Padraig! He really deserves it. That 2nd shot at 17th ws just amazing.

No doubts Harrington will be leading the assault on the Ryder cup - Europes best player by a mile right now

He's got a really annoying voice though ...
like the priest on Father Ted who traps people in rooms with endless boring conversations with himself.

It won him the majors he does have to his name as well though.

My pal and I were saying this afternoon that we were perfectly happy for any of those three to win it.
I thought Poults had it when he got posted +7 and got the funk out of dodge.
Couldn't hear the commentary, but I'm guessing the wind dropped off again for the last hour or two again as it did yesterday? Certainly looked like it. Tide turning round.
Unlucky for Poulter, but well played Padraig - first man to retain the Claret Jug since Watson in '83?

I can't believe people actually go to the courses to watch golf. I can't even believe people play golf, so to watch it, they must be unofficially braindead.

Either that or perhaps it's the fact that it requires an attention span which causes it to pass you by . . . ?

Hmmm, interesting theory. But I think it's more to do with the fact that it's shit to watch.

Golf is fun to play (and boring as sin to do the practice you need to get good at it). I only ever watch the Open, Masters and Ryder Cup, as I don't care enough about the rest, so it doesn't grab me in the same way as cricket or football. But its still good stuff.

Aye. Normally watch the odd major and the Ryder cup too... bit like me & tennis.

Aye, pretty much the same as me, though I do watch the US Open and US PGA as well.
Basically majors + Ryder Cup for me, and occasionally before Santa Sports snaffled the US golf tour I would watch the final round on a Sunday evening if there was a Brit (Donald or Rose basically) in contention.

Yeah it's one of those sports like snooker and tennis that grab your attention for a couple of weeks a year and you don't take much notice of the rest of the time - as opposed to cricket and football which are virtually year-round addictions!

Perhaps it's because you're all middle aged. Even I might start liking golf when I'm in my mid-40s.
Bet you didn't play/watch golf when you were in your twenties.

I 'play'.
There is a hollow unsatisfying soulless thrill to whacking seven shades of shit out of a stationary ball and seeing it soar a couple of hundred yards.

Watched and played from a very young age - pre-teen.
Took the game up a bit more seriously when I was a tax dodging student, but had to take the decision to give the game up when I started playing cricket again 10 years ago, as I no longer had the time to devote to it to prevent me from being spirit crushingly inadequate.
