Harmison speaks out against Pattinson
"The amount of money the ECB have pushed into young bowlers, taking them to Chennai and the Academy - are we saying the young bowlers aren't good enough?," Harmison said. "I haven't seen him [Pattinson] bowl - I was asleep when we played them. But good luck to him, he has taken his chance. If he deserves it I'm not sure, but good luck to him."
No wonder he got a duck in that match then!
Harmison on the ball as usual.

Re: Harmison speaks out against Pattinson
Did he really say this? If he's bigging up young bowlers rather than himself, it seems he's accepted that his England career is over. Expect him to retire from all cricket within a couple of years.

Re: Harmison speaks out against Pattinson
Yeah, he did say it, it was reported along with the Hoggard quotes.
http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/engvrsa/content/current/story/361735.html
Harmison really is as daft as a brush. I could understand it if he was asleep for a spell in a county championship match heading for a draw - but apparently he slept through an entire innings of a C & G Quarter final - one of the most exciting matches of the season with Durham winning by 1 wicket...

Barmy Harmy.
Mentally gone as an international cricketer.
FACT.
Hence why he was not even under consideration for this Test match.
The problem is that our national selectors recognised this over two years later than was bleedingly obvious and it was to the detriment of our side in the interim.

That interview was embarrassing to watch. SkySports set him up and let him run his mouth. BBB is right, he sounds like he's lost it mentally. Listen to how his voice shakes.
He's not so much shot his career in the foot as blown it off at the knee.

His mental fragility was evident on his first tour of Australia. Suffered from the worst case of runup yips I've seen at any level.

barmy must be a real joy to have around in the dressing room...has never seemed to possess a scintilla of team spirit - fancy implicitly bagging a test dubutante...in my mind he will be remembered for two things - sooking on an epic scale and that first over in the last ashes series.

Re: Harmison speaks out against Pattinson
Well personally I'll remember him for that devastating spell in the Windies in 2004, and the great bowling around that period which took him to number one in the world rankings. At least as important, maybe more so was the roughing up of the 'Oz top order on the first day of the 2005 Ashes series, which though ultimately it did not win us that Test, certainly set the tone for the rest of the series and showed that England were finally going to trade blows toe to toe with you bar stewards.
Since then, however, he's done a hell of a lot to undo that memory, and seemingly never fails to take an opportunity to exacerbate the problem with dumb ass interviews like this.

Aye Bob.
Most frustrating bowler ever for us.
That Pak thrashing at OT aside he's done jacksh*t since 2005. Time to move on....
(although not to the likes of 'fair dinkum Pattinson' FFS)

Re: Harmison speaks out against Pattinson
I feel sorry for the poor bugger.
Had so much going for him - feared as a quick, respected as a bowler.
With guidance and assurances from his Missus together with an ECB watchdog - he could've gone on to greater things ... but ... all history now. Like I said - poor sod.
One Harmy memory however will never fade as far as I'm concerned as I've possibly mentioned before -
Lord's 2005, that brute of a ball (on a placid wicket) that leapt, reared up, spat and took
a piece out of Ponting's cheek, leaving his permanent mark on the Drunk for life!
The sound of leather on metal grill was awesome, the ground hushed for a moment before the uproar of disbelieving satisfaction.
Only one problem - rather than glowering down at the visibly shaken Ponting (best bat in the world at the time) and snarling something appropriate like "Eat leather ar**hole" ... the softcock smiled and gestured tepidly ... a sure sign that he lacked a true quicks instinctive natural dislike for batsmen.
Oh well ... Happy times.

Yeah? Well that'd be you being a presumptious little cock-knocking jizz-slurper.
All accounts say he's a man that teammates with troubles go to - one of the most popular and likeable blokes in the team.

...and Langer (who was the non-striker) complained that the Poms weren't 'nice enough' after the incident ...strange the different perspectives of the same incident

Not different Nads .... Just a different perspective.
Langer's take on "the Poms weren't nice enough" might just have a slightly different meaning - naturally.
What did he want - hugs, kisses and a bunch of red roses ?
Harmless did make what passed for an 'apologetic' gesture before turning away ...
wasn't that enough?

Hows about the fact the young bowlers aren't good enough, will that do?
I think the outcry following Pattinsons selection is hilarious, even if the Lions and academy players were good enough every bugger on here would be saying they aren't old enough. From what I can gather any new England prospect needs to have plied his trade for at least 10 years on the county circuit and been overlooked at least twice by a past it sub 80 mph swing bowler with the all important 'test experience'. Or has the outrage felt by the inclusion of Pattinson changed everyones way of thinking so much you are all now willing to take a punt on an inexperienced youngster?

But what does HQ say about it?
HQ? MCC ? :?:
Or d'you mean the ECB ?
It's got bugger all to do with the MCC mate!
The ECB, on the other hand, need to look hard at their seriously flawed selection system,
the three overpaid tossers who preside over it, a coach who clearly hasn't the first idea about
"coaching" and a captain who can't buy a run right now, who nevertheless sees fit to lambaste
a fellow professional (regardless of demeanour) in publicand off field in a fit of self righteous indignation.
FFS - Bizzarre is the only word that comes to mind.
Time we all took a long hard look at reality.
We just ain't in the same league as the Jaarps right now - let alone the same page.
But hey ... let's take some positives from this embarrassing drubbing ... why don't we!!
I'm sure our skipper has !
Time to heavily prune the bush IMO - this has been a disaster waiting to happen.
It just has ... and with a serious vengance!

Trolling again taips?
How unoriginal!
Not unexpected though.
You asked a question and were given an answer.
Either discuss / debate the issue or else f**k off.
There - now feast on that NSR.

I don't particularly concur that the consensus, on here, is that the young bowlers aren't good enough.
What I'd say is there aren't any young bowlers doing their thing regularly.
I can't think of many regular 18-22 year old bowlers ATM.
My train of thought would be Chris Lewis over Pattinson, let alone Stuart Meaker and all the others who get sweet FA FC cricket.
