Y'know, for a vid about the 'quickest over of all time' it probably wouldn't have been a bad idea to have not cropped the speed gun readings out. And to have shown the whole over, not 3 balls...

I saw Allan Donald bowl one of the quickest overs of all time to Steve and Mark Waugh at the SCG in 1998. He hit them both 4 times in the over.

Aye - that was Steve's 100th test. It was just about the best session of cricket I have ever seen live. A great bowler at his peak, a great batsman at his peak and one of the game's most watchable batsman, also at his peak, scoring a ton.

Donald eventually got Steve in a later spell with probably the quickest ball I've ever seen which knocked out the off stump of the No 1 ranked batsman in the game at that time who was well set on 80.



Small point, he couldn't have hit both of them 4 times in a 6 ball over.

I meant he hit them 4 times in the over, whether it was Mark or Steve.

Holding's action is something to behold isn't it?

easily the fastest spell of bowling i have seen was shoaib vs the aussies in colombo. after ponting it was pure mayhem. ponting, mark waugh, steve waugh, gilchrist and warne in a few overs

Holding looks so effortless, smooth and athletic. A stark contrast to the whinging, grumpy old man he has turned out to be.

the slips are not standing too far back are they? that should give you an idea on how fast it really was, almost the same distance as short leg. compare it to the shoaib videos. also with that action its hard to imagine holding topped 90 mph

Back then the slips fielders decided taking catches at waist level was better than having a third umpire deciding on a grounded catch.

Yes...WTF????

It was an ultra-rhythmical action that would have harnessed all of the momentum from the run in and the projection of the ball. It would have minimised "wasted energy" and we are talking about long levers here from a mechanical point of view.

at least in that over the arm speed doesnt seem quick enough

i think the position of the slips and keeper is most telling

That might be the story about "Bomber" Wells: he was an Offie who played for Glos. then Notts. As I understand it, he had a two pace run up. The story (myth?) is that he was playing against Worcestershire at New Road and completed an over while the Cathedral bells struck 12.

exactly. the contrast with that holding over is striking

if the position of slips/WK is anything to go by then Zahid was certainly FASTER than Shoaib.
