Kumble -- My bad. Kaif for Captain. Karthik has potential to be a VC. He should be the keeper though.doremi wrote:Kumble's already out and the other two you have mentioned will be going out soon, if not 6 months then in 8 or a year.
And do you mean Karthik or Kaif?

In his present form, Karthik should be nowhere India's ODI or Twenty20 team.Karthik has potential to be a VC
Apart from his hopeless catching (except yesterday's stunner), his batting is as bad anyone.
Karthik in last few ODIs
1, 0, 4 and 2*
Karthik in last few Twenty20s
11, 7 and 0
Yep, he should really be India's next VC.

As for this Kaif for Captain thingy, there surely are far more talented bats in India than him.
Guys like Manoj Tiwary, Rohit Sharma, Praveen Kumar and Badrinath are anyday ahead of him for selection.

Good selective stats. Key Word I have used is "potential".

Dhoni looks like he could be a very good captain, but I worry about the captain also being the wicketkeeper. Could be too much of a burden. But he definetly seems to have the support of his teammates.

And good to see RP repaying the faithful ones who have argued for him all through.

Even if one takes you comment at face value how does that make them get the nod ahead of Kaif in the Captaincy stakes.SG wrote:As for this Kaif for Captain thingy, there surely are far more talented bats in India than him.

Guys like Tiwary and Sharma should be taking the place of the likes of Sachin, VVS etc. in the not too distant future.

being in the team always helps if you want to be captain. kaif's time has gone, yuvraj might be under similar danger, esp in tests

Being nominted Captain also helps get one into the team. Once the Vengsar"kar" debacle is over I am hoping common sense will start to prevail.

What selective stats?Good selective stats.
They're his scores in last few matches, how can it be selective?
He has been failing with bat quite a bit for last few ODIs/Twenty20s, apart from dropping catches regularly. How can that be selective?

Not everyone scores, but most score better than the poor old Indians when the ball starts moving about . . .

lol thats an original way to get poor kaify in. in the team for his captaincy 'skills'. maybe we need to get someone in who's lucky at the toss as well
agarkar and sharma are dropped from the odi team. that must make you happy. oh wait, that would actually disprove your 'bombay lobby' theory

Has Dhoni's success proved to the Indian selectors that there is substantial cricketing talent in India outside the main urban centres?

Have to admit - England or should I rightly say Leicestershire CCC did a great job for India cricket. Apparently the sport scientists and physio's highlighted a small element in RP's delivery - he changed it with their help and he's a totally different bowler.
Should send some of the others - esp. SS

thats interesting stuff. cc really is great for the youngsters, esp the bowlers. should try and get most of them there for at least one season
