Is England more unpredictable than Pakistan?
Feels so. How can a team with KP beat only the Zimbees? Perplexing, very, keeping me awake, when I have an early start.

Strategy wrong, I think. Picked guys who did well in domestic 2020 instead of picking class blokes.

KP is the one player, prior to the tournament, whom you would have confidence in 'doing a Gayle' or belting in Yuvraj style. pity.

Re: Is England more unpredictable than Pakistan?
The only thing unpredictable about England is the losing margin. We have an unenviable habit of making one-day games close but losing them all, but then there's the occasion where we simply get thrashed.
And KP's over-rated as a slogger: he's a batsman. End. And he's obsessed with that reverse-sweep. Yep, it's fun, it's dismissive, but you can't play it to every ball Kevin.

Absolutely and emphatically NOT.
England are probably the most predictable side in this, or any other tournament.
Predict that they lose - and bu**er me, they always oblige.[/b]

More like how can a team with only KP beat anyone but Zim...
Apart from the openers who've done a decent job, its been all on Pietersen. Which predictably mean decent starts turn into middle order collapses. Most of the successful teams have had a Kemp / Shoaib Malik / McMillan in the middle order who takes responsibility.

Do you understand the word 'unpredictable'?filosofee wrote:Is England more unpredictable than Pakistan? Feels so. How can a team with KP beat only the Zimbees?

England: Ashes 2005 being the exception we are OK at winning meaningless baubles but choke whenever there's some proper silverware on offer.
So no, we are pretty predictable.
So no, we are pretty predictable.

I think they are unpredictable - wouldn't have put them down to win the triangular ODI in Aus, after their Test defeats, nor winning the last of the 7 ODIs against India or only beating Zimbees in this Twenty20.
And who'd have thought Pakistan would beat the Aussies in the manner they did, not me!
Both nations produce unpredictable cricketing teams.

So I dreamt that we won a series in S.A. then?

Aye, since 2000 we've been one of the better teams in test cricket.
But we do like to moan about our team don't we?
The ODI scene is totally different though, we've been one of, if not 'the' worst teams since 1996.
I don't see us changing that round in the space of a few months since Moores took over - its a long term job getting our pyjama cricket back on track.

Re: Is England more unpredictable than Pakistan?
It's just difficult to find batsmen who possess both the class to be international players and the big hitting and improvisation needed in the shorter game. One problem is that a few of our Test batsmen are not "natural" one-day players - that's not to say the younger ones among them can't learn the shorter formats. I'd like to see them reschedule the county Twenty20 so our Test and ODI players get to play a major part in it.
We just have to keep trying players out and give the young players time. Hopefully Broad's confidence isn't damaged long term by what happened yesterday, and his international career amounts to little more than an unwanted place in the record books.
